Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Fez to Merzouga

Your hotel pickup happens at 8 am, and then you'll head south through some of Morocco's best landscapes. Ifrane comes first, a mountain town people often call the Switzerland of Morocco, so bring your camera. After that you'll stop in Azrou where cedar forests have monkeys hanging around, which is worth seeing. Lunch happens in Midelt before you cross the Tizi N Talghamt pass, and from there the views of Ziz Gorges are pretty striking. Erfoud is next, known for its fossils and dates if you want to grab something. By late afternoon you'll reach Erg Chebbi and do a sunset camel trek across the dunes. Your desert camp is where you'll stay for the night.

  2. Day 2

    Merzouga to Boumalen Dades

Early morning means catching the sunrise from the top of a dune, then you'll have breakfast back at camp. After that you head toward Tineghir, passing through Erfoud and Tinejdad with a lunch break somewhere along the route. Todra Gorges is where you'll spend your afternoon, hiking through the canyon and walking around to see the walls up close. From there it's on to Dades Valley where you get panoramic views of the landscape. Check in at your accommodation, and dinner is traditional Moroccan food before you settle in for the night.

  3. Day 3

    Boumalen Dades to Marrakech

After breakfast you're heading to Marrakech. The first stop is Rose Valley, but you'll pass through Skoura palm grove first, which has something like 700,000 palms and a bunch of kasbahs scattered around. Ouarzazate comes next, and there's the Taourirt Kasbah to see plus the Atlas Film Studios if you're interested. Ait Ben Haddou is a UNESCO site and was used for filming Gladiator and The Mummy, so it's pretty recognizable if you know those movies. You'll have free time for lunch somewhere in there. Then you cross the High Atlas mountains through Tizi N'Tichka pass at 2,260m/7,410 ft and arrive in Marrakech for your final hotel transfer.
