Ljubljana
Pick up your rental car and drive to Ljubljana. You can take a guided city tour or wander around on your own. Head to Castle Hill for views over the city, then walk along the Ljubljanica river banks. Tivoli Park is worth checking out if you have time, and the squares like Prešeren Square and Congress Square show some interesting architecture throughout the Old Town.

- Day 2
Ptuj - Maribor
Drive northeast across the River Sava into the Štajerska region. Start in Celje and explore the old castle and its romantic streets. After that, continue on to Ptuj, a former Roman military outpost and Slovenia's oldest town with plenty of history to see. End your day in Maribor, the second largest city, where you'll find the oldest grapevine still producing grapes after over 400 years.

- Day 3
Lake Bled
Start this morning with a walk in Maribor City Park, checking out the wide promenade and Three Ponds. Then drive northwest to the Gorenjska region and reach Lake Bled. Walk around the lake, visit the castle on the cliff for mountain and lake views, and take a traditional pletna boat out to the island church. Try the famous Bled Cream cakes while you're there, as they're a local specialty.

- Day 4
Triglav National Park - Lake Bohinj
Spend your day in the Julian Alps region and Triglav National Park, one of Europe's oldest parks. You'll see Mt. Triglav at 2,864m, several waterfalls, and lakes scattered throughout. Check out Boka Falls near Bovec, which drops 106m, and Lake Bohinj, the largest lake in the region. You can take a boat across the lake or try zip lining if you're looking for something more adventurous.

- Day 5
Soča Valley - Goriska Brda
Head north through Kranjska Gora, an alpine town near the Austrian and Italian borders. Then drive over Vršič Mountain Pass at 1,611m, the highest road pass in the Eastern Julian Alps with 50 serpentine curves. The descent takes you into the emerald-colored Soča Valley. Spend time in Bovec for sport and hiking, or visit Kobarid to see the WWI museum. End your evening in Goriska Brda, a gourmet and wine region.

Lipica - Slovenian Coast
Head south to the Slovenian Karst, where you'll find around 8,000 recorded caves and local air-dried prosciutto paired with Teran red wine. Visit Lipica, a stud farm with over 400 years of tradition breeding Lippizaner horses that are born black and turn white as they mature. Later, travel to the Slovenian coast on the Istrian peninsula and walk through the medieval streets of Koper, Izola, and Piran.

- Day 7
Karst Caves
Explore the Venetian heritage in Slovenian Istria, moving from Koper with its Roman origins to the romantic town of Piran. If you prefer nature, visit the Sečovlje saltpans where they produce high-quality salt. Then head back to the Karst region for underground exploration. Check out Postojna Cave with its electric train, the UNESCO-listed Škocjan Caves, Vilenica Cave (Europe's oldest show cave), and Predjama Castle, the largest cave castle in the world.
