Vancouver
Your trip starts in Vancouver, where you'll settle into your overnight place and get a feel for the city. After checking in, head out to explore different neighborhoods and try some of the local food scene. Gastown has interesting Victorian buildings worth walking through, and the Vancouver Lookout gives you 360-degree views across the city and mountains. If you arrive with time to spare, there's an optional luxury train ride on the Rocky Mountaineer through the Canadian Rockies available.

Vancouver to Ship
Following breakfast at your hotel, you'll join a guided city tour that hits Vancouver's main spots before heading to the pier. Once aboard MS Roald Amundsen, spend time checking out the ship's Science Center, using the gym, and grabbing food at the restaurants. The Expedition Team will introduce themselves, and later that evening you'll have the welcome dinner as your Alaska journey officially kicks off.

Inside Passage
Today you're sailing through the Inside Passage, a 930-mile protected water route along the North American Pacific coast. Your smaller expedition ship means you can sail during the day and actually see the scenery, plus access narrow channels that bigger cruise ships can't reach. Keep your camera ready since dolphins, porpoises, orcas, and humpback whales hang around these waters.

Misty Fjords
You'll explore Misty Fjords within the Tongass National Forest, where thick evergreen forests, waterfalls, and snow-capped peaks surround you. If weather cooperates, the Expedition Team takes small boats or kayaks out so you can search for mountain goats, bears, and moose. The water here has Pacific salmon, otters, sea lions, harbor seals, orcas, and Dall's porpoises, with bald eagles and herons flying overhead.

Wrangell
You're stopping in Wrangell, one of Alaska's oldest harbor towns. Head to Petroglyph Beach just outside town to see ancient rock carvings carved into the rocks. The local museum covers Wrangell's history under British, Russian, and Tlingit rule. From there, cross to Shakes Island to check out the Chief Shakes Tribal House and totem poles. If you're up for hiking, nature trails at the Stikine River mouth offer views of Mount Dewey and the rainforest.

Southeast Alaska Exploration
This day is more flexible based on conditions and what the captain thinks is best. You might head to Petersburg, which has strong Norwegian roots and an active fishing community, wandering the docks and checking out the nature around Frederick Sound. Or you could take expedition boats into secluded coves and iceberg-filled bays surrounded by thick forest, hunting for eagles, otters, whales, and bears.

Holkham Bay
Holkham Bay is home to two fjords worth exploring: Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm. Your captain will pick which one offers the better experience for the day. At the end of each fjord, icebergs break off from glaciers against forested cliffs. Endicott Arm is where harbor seals breed on floating ice. The area has whales, bears, mountain goats, and moose. Before heading out in small boats, grab photography tips from the onboard photographer.

Haines
You're exploring Haines, a frontier town in the 'Valley of the Eagles' on Lynn Canal, originally home to the Chilkat Tlingit people known for their weaving. You can see their mountain goat fur and cedar bark woven into detailed designs. Haines has a strong art community with galleries and workshops showing totem carvings, silverwork, and sculptures. Try landscape photography or go hiking and wildlife watching for bald eagles, bears, and moose.

Landmarks/POIs Haines Lynn Canal - Day 9
William Henry Bay and Sitka
The ship anchors at William Henry Bay on the edge of the Chilkat Range for the day. Local guides lead you through old-growth forest while keeping watch for brown and black bears, black-tailed deer, and moose. After returning to the ship, listen to lectures from the Expedition Team, then relax in the Explorer Lounge or use the hot tubs on deck as you cruise toward Sitka. Watch for humpbacks at Point Adolphus on Chichagof Island, one of the best whale spots in North America.

Sitka
Sitka is surrounded by Tongass National Forest and only accessible by sea or air. Head on deck for views of the Sisters Mountains and Mount Edgecumbe volcano as you arrive. The Expedition Team will walk you through Sitka's history, including 10,000 years of Tlingit inhabitation, Russian occupation starting in 1804, and the later sale to America after the Crimean War. Visit the Russian Orthodox cathedral and Bishop's House, see Haida and Tlingit totem poles at the national historical park, or walk forest trails down to the ocean.

Icy Bay
Icy Bay is an exploration day where three glaciers (Guyot, Yahtse, and Tyndall) regularly calve into the water. Conditions permitting, you'll go out in small expedition boats or kayak to see the area up close. The Gulf of Alaska is full of wildlife, so you'll have chances to photograph humpback whales, orcas, Stellar sea lions, sea otters, and harbor seals on floating ice.

Cordova
The ship arrives in remote Cordova in the Chugach National Forest, reachable only by boat or plane. This small town has kept its traditional character and offers views across Orca Inlet, Hawkins Island, Mount Eccles, Eyak Lake, and the Copper River Delta. The coastline recovered after the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill, and now you can spot sea otters, eagles, tundra swans, beavers, moose, and bears.

College Fjord
College Fjord shows off nature's power with five tidewater glaciers, five valley glaciers, and about a dozen other glacier types. The 1899 Harriman expedition named it after their colleges (Vassar, Harvard, Yale, and others), and the fjord lives up to its name with remarkable glacial landscapes. Small expedition boats or kayaks get you as close as possible to the ice. From the water, watch for humpback whales, bald eagles, otters, and sea lions in this icy setting.

Seward to Anchorage
Your expedition cruise finishes in Seward, Alaska's only deep-water ice-free port with road, rail, and air links inland. You'll travel by scenic route through Kenai Fjords National Park backcountry with a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see orphaned and injured animals like eagles, owls, bison, bears, and musk oxen. Later, check into your hotel in Anchorage and spend the evening exploring the city on your own.

Anchorage
Your Alaska trip wraps up in Anchorage, a city with lots of restaurants, galleries, and shops to browse. The Anchorage Museum and Alaska Native Heritage Center both offer good looks at local culture. If you'd rather be outside, Town Square Park has flowers and open space, or you can try salmon fishing in Ship Creek. Denali National Park to the north is home to North America's tallest peak and loads of Alaskan wildlife if you have extra time. There's also an optional post-trip program available.
