Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Espinama

    You'll arrive in Espinama with airport transfers arranged from either Santander or Bilbao. After settling in at Hotel Posada Sobrevilla III, grab dinner at the hotel restaurant and rest up before your mountain hiking adventure begins.

  2. Day 2

    Fuente De Cable Car and Refugio Veronica Circular Walk

    Head to Fuente De this morning and take the cable car up the mountain. From there, you'll complete a circular 12km walk to Refugio Veronica, which takes 5 to 6 hours with 600m of climbing and descent. The views across Picos de Europa spread out below you the whole time.

  3. Day 3

    Walk to Sotres via GR202

    Start early for a 15km walk along the GR202 trail from the hotel, taking 4 to 6 hours with 750m ascent and 650m descent. You'll move through the Duje Valley with the option to stop at Refugio De Aliva. Later, check into Hotel Peña Castil in Sotres for the night.

  4. Day 4

    Choice of Two Walks

    Choose your route today: either the Sotres-Tielve-Sotres walk covering 14km over 4 to 6 hours through grazing lands with Rio Duje Valley views, or tackle the longer Jito De Escardi Circular at 17km over 5 to 7 hours past old mineral mines through the Western massif. Lunch stops are available along both routes.

  5. Day 5

    Sotres to Bulnes to Poncebos and Arenas De Cabrales

    Walk from Sotres over Collado Pondebano down to Bulnes, covering 13km with 360m ascent but 1200m descent. You'll then drop to Poncebos either by taking the funicular train or hiking through a gorge. After that, transfer to Arenas De Cabrales and settle into Hotel Picos De Europa.

  6. Day 6

    Garganta del Cares Walk

    Transfer to Poncebos and enter the Cares Gorge for up to 24km of walking with 300m ascent and descent. You'll pass through tunnels carved into the rock walls and hike 12km to Cain village before heading back the same route. It's not technically difficult but the exposure can feel intense, so bring lunch if doing the full distance. Later, transfer back to Arenas De Cabrales.

    You have two options today: either complete a circular walk over four peaks with dramatic ridges overlooking Arenas, which covers 12km over 5 to 7 hours with 650m ascent and descent, or head to Santander or Bilbao to begin your departure.
