- Maren· June 7th, 2025Wonderful tour, awesome nature, nice people, great tour guide - Neil is doing a fantastic job. Very fun, very knowledgeable. Unfortunately the speakers on the bus couldn't always win against the engine sounds so it was a bit hard to understand all of his fantastic stories, but you get used to it. Hostels are basic but mostly cute.Show moreTrip date: June 2025
- George· May 23rd, 2025Neil was AMAZING. My wife and I visited from the states to do the 5 day tour, and it was by far our favorite part of our trip. Neil has a great way of making the trip feel personal. He's funny as hell and is full of awesome historical facts and stories. Honestly just getting a chance to meet such a down-to-earth, interesting person made the trip for me- but that's just the cherry on top of this amazing tour. We got to see just about everything on the itinerary, and more. The weather was beautiful, and exceptionally clear so that was never an issue. All of it was amazing, but nothing beats the highlands and the Isle of Skye. A lot of the places we were taken felt off the beaten path, which helped make this trip feel so intimate. It almost felt like we were given access to the best secret places. The hostel accomodations were great as well. As someone who has never stayed in a hostel, it was relief knowing that the dorms we were sharing were with just the others on the tour. Talking with the more travelled members of the group, it was widely acknowledged that the hostels were some of the best they've stayed in. It definitely helps to be sharing a space with people who are respectful of others. I honestly can say enough good things about the trip. The guide, the stops, and the accomodations were all so much more than I ever expected. I would recommend Macbackpackers to anyone with the best vote of confidence possible. It was a trip I'll never forget!Show moreMacBackpackers commented on this reviewThank you so much for your review :) You are awesome!Trip date: May 2025

- MManuela· December 23rd, 2024It was amazing! I would take a tour with MacBackpackers any day. Our tour guide is the greatest driver and story teller I've seen (it's a shame I don't remember her name. But it's the girl who likes to dye her her with cool colors). It was super well planned. Time management was impecable, the choosing of the places we went was spectacular and also the recommendations of where to eat, shop etc.Show moreTrip date: August 2023
- AAnonymous· December 21st, 2024Neil was amazing!! His stories and folktales were so informative and funny. Neil knows how to keep a group entertained. His knowledge of Scotland and its history was excellent. I’ve never had a better tour. ?Show moreTrip date: September 2022
- PPiotr· December 21st, 2024You probably won’t believe this story, but I swear it is true. I was a simple guy from Poland trying to earn some money in Scotland and move on, move to New Zealand, and eventually die on my own coconut plantation on Vanuatu or Kiribati. That was the life plan, simple as. But then whilst I was living in Aberdeen my friend visited me with his forever bored wife and I decided to book the tour with Neil to show them around. Now, I don’t want to bore you with details and sophisticated descriptions of the nature and how awesome the tour was. I think it is enough to say that after spending some time with Neil, our conversations, being surrounded by the Scottish wilderness, I’ve decided to changed my life plan. I am now the ultimate Scottish patriot. My naturalisation certificate hangs proudly on my wall, I have a Sgian Dubhs with “proud son of Scotland” engraved on it by my ex girlfriend father (long story). I cry tears of joy and happiness when I read Robert Burns’ poetry and feel nostalgic when having lorn sausage and tea in Glasgow (shout out to Billy C). That’s all I have to say about it. You will be fools not to give This goddamn award to Neil.Show moreTrip date: May 2023

Asked on May 11th, 2025Do yo have this tour for over age 39? What is the reason for the age limit!
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written May 2025
We do not have tours for people older than 40. We sometimes make exceptions if you are just over the mark but other than that we stay within our age range. The tours are specifically designed for the 18-40 age bracket and the activities, nature and style of the tours reflect that.

Asked on April 29th, 2025Im looking at the 5 Day Skye & Highland Fling for next week, just wondering how many people are on the tour so far. And if I stay an extra night before and after can I book through here or book seperatly?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written April 2025
The 5 day tour for next week is already half full, but there is still spaces. Once you make your booking on tour radar, we can reserve you a bed at Castle Rock Hostel upon request.

Asked on April 26th, 2025When do tour dates for 2026 come out. I would like to book something in advance and would like to view those dates for next year. I am looking to travel to Scotland and England
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written April 2025
The 2026 dates won't be released till closer to the end of the year. What month are you thinking of travelling? I am able to assist you better with more details.

Asked on March 29th, 2025Would like more information about accommodations, particularly room type and possibility of double room for all nights of the Tour.
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written March 2025
We only have dormitory style accommodation on all our tours.

Asked on March 25th, 2025Is it possible for my partner and I to share a bed in the hostels
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written March 2025
All the beds in the hostel are single bunk beds, so we wouldn't recommend trying to share one. You would have a bed each reserved though, so if you really wanted to share a bed that's up to you, but they're generally not big enough to comfortably fit two people.

Asked on March 18th, 2025Could we understand a bit more on what all we'll be seeing, what are the hostels like and if there are any hidden charges?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written March 2025
MacBackpackers organise tours of the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye for the 18-39 age group. We like to spend as much time off the coach enjoying the breath-taking scenery, visiting historical sites and we even try to include a couple of hikes. The price shown on Tour Radar is for the tour only. We pre organise hostel dormitory accommodation for all our guests and this costs £136 per person for the four nights and includes a light breakfast. There are no private rooms available in any of the hostels. Other than breakfast, meals are not included in the price but we make supermarket stops so you can purchase lunches and dinners to prepare in the hostel (a must for the first night as this hostel is not in a town) or you can choose to eat out. We aim to keep our prices as low as possible as our tours are designed for travelling on a budget, therefore we do not normally visit places that require a hefty entrance fee.

Traveler•Written March 2025Could you confirm if you would have a space for 4-5 people for the tour starting on 05th May?

Asked on March 16th, 2025Do you have your own room in Loc Ness?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written March 2025
The hostels we stay in are dormitory style accommodation, which means you would share the room with other travellers from the tour. The Loch Ness hostel does have a twin room, but I'm not sure if it will be available. If you let me know what date you wish to travel, I can check for you. If it's not available the other way you can guarantee a private room is if you pay for the extra beds within a larger dorm.

Asked on March 15th, 2025Do I need to book directly on your website to avail of this discount? Or can I do it here on Tour Radar and still get the discount?

The hostel discount code only applies to direct bookings

Asked on March 8th, 2025can i please request to pay advance amount, remaining can i pay later remaining before the tour
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written March 2025
When booking through TourRadar you must use their payment options which will be described on the tour. If there's no option for you to pay the balance later then you may be booking too close to be able to pay the tour off in installments. Please check the options on the booking page.

Asked on March 6th, 2025I saw on your website that you offer accommodation at £34/ night including breakfast. Was wondering if that would be an option for me if I booked the tour on here?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written March 2025
Yes, when you book through TourRadar, the accommodation is automatically reserved for you. On the day of your tour departure, you have to go to Castle Rock Hostel to check in for the tour and that is when you also pay for the acommodation.

Traveler•Written March 2025Will we be doing a lot of hikes during this tour? Like Old man of storr?.. Been reading the reviews and there's mixed answers..
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written March 2025
Yes, there are usually some hikes involved on the tour. It might not be Old man of Storr specifically, it might be a different one, like the Quiraing or Brother point. It really depends on the guide and what the think is the best option on the day.
