- JGJessie· July 16th, 2025This was a great little taster of the Scottish Highlands. Lots of interesting and picturesque stops. Would highly recommend.Show moreTrip date: July 2025
- Sebastian· June 29th, 2025The tour is amazing and definitely worth the time and money. Our tour guide was Stuart and he is the main reason why this tour will stay with me. Usually the bus commutes to the points of interest are a necessary evil. He actually made them highlights due to all the stories he told with love and enthusiasm for his country mixed with Scottish music that blended exellently with the beautiful Highland landscape. Day 3 and 4 were my highlights. Especially the Isle of Skye is gorgeous.Show moreMacBackpackers commented on this reviewWe are so glad you had such a great time, thank you for the review and hope you are well!Trip date: June 2025
- Kavya· June 23rd, 2025Neil was one of the best tour guides I’ve ever met. His love for Scotland is so evident and he didn’t do the easy job of selling Scotland in a “tourist trap” way, but instead he was honest and authentic about the history of the land and the ways in which certain social norms impact the landscapes for better or for worse. His love for Scotland made me fall all the more in love despite having already lived here for 4 years. His knack for telling stories and the joy/fun/humour he infuses in them helped us all learn so much. His tips were super helpful throughout. Macbackers has set the standard so high for other bus tours and I’m not sure anything will top the experience I had. 100/10 recommend.Show moreMacBackpackers commented on this reviewThank you so much Kavya, you were such a joy to have on the tour :) We are thrilled you had such a wonderful experience!Trip date: June 2025

- Maren· June 7th, 2025Wonderful tour, awesome nature, nice people, great tour guide - Neil is doing a fantastic job. Very fun, very knowledgeable. Unfortunately the speakers on the bus couldn't always win against the engine sounds so it was a bit hard to understand all of his fantastic stories, but you get used to it. Hostels are basic but mostly cute.Show moreMacBackpackers commented on this reviewThank you so much for the wonderful review! :)Trip date: June 2025
- JJasmine· June 2nd, 2025I went on the 5 day Skye and Highlands tour in early May with my friend. We had an amazing time and had so much fun exploring Scotland. The best thing about this tour is the tour guides. Neil and Mark (new to the team), were our guides and were the best! Neil’s driving got us safely around and he had the best stories and so much passion for his country! Mark has a great sense of humour and kept us all entertained! Brilliant guys with so much knowledge! The tour itself has quite a flexible feel to it and a lot of the tour destinations are dependent on traffic or parking arrangements. I was very happy with everything we got to do and see but we were advised that things may be different than the online itinerary. Neil and Mark explained different options to us throughout the day and we could pick as a group what we’d like to do if the first option wasn’t available. There are plenty of opportunities to go for walks and due to the nature of the environment some activities are not suitable for those with mobility or health conditions. I have some issues with my mobility and Neil and Mark were great at advising about the terrain or other options I could enjoy, while others were hiking. The downside for me was the accommodation, I didn’t enjoy staying in the hostels and found some to be very basic. The locations were great and they all felt safe and relatively clean but some were uncomfortable and cramped. I’d love other options for accommodation if I were to take the tour again. The weather was amazing the whole week which was an added bonus! We had an amazing trip and I loved spending time in nature and learning so much about Scottish culture and history.Show moreTrip date: May 2025
- George· May 23rd, 2025Neil was AMAZING. My wife and I visited from the states to do the 5 day tour, and it was by far our favorite part of our trip. Neil has a great way of making the trip feel personal. He's funny as hell and is full of awesome historical facts and stories. Honestly just getting a chance to meet such a down-to-earth, interesting person made the trip for me- but that's just the cherry on top of this amazing tour. We got to see just about everything on the itinerary, and more. The weather was beautiful, and exceptionally clear so that was never an issue. All of it was amazing, but nothing beats the highlands and the Isle of Skye. A lot of the places we were taken felt off the beaten path, which helped make this trip feel so intimate. It almost felt like we were given access to the best secret places. The hostel accomodations were great as well. As someone who has never stayed in a hostel, it was relief knowing that the dorms we were sharing were with just the others on the tour. Talking with the more travelled members of the group, it was widely acknowledged that the hostels were some of the best they've stayed in. It definitely helps to be sharing a space with people who are respectful of others. I honestly can say enough good things about the trip. The guide, the stops, and the accomodations were all so much more than I ever expected. I would recommend Macbackpackers to anyone with the best vote of confidence possible. It was a trip I'll never forget!Show moreMacBackpackers commented on this reviewThank you so much for your review :) You are awesome!Trip date: May 2025

- SFSara· May 7th, 2025Stewart's tour rocks! I had the most amazing experience wondering highlands under the guidance of a local tour guide, whom not only own the knowledge of every bit of Scotland's history, but also demonstrated the ability of an experienced storyteller in vivid presentations. He is a mix of a performer with strong personality (in a good way!), and a human Google map together with passion plus expertise in hiking. Stewart's sweetness and detail-mindedness never disappoints throughout the whole trip. Glad to be guided by Stewart!Show moreTrip date: May 2025

Asked on June 13th, 2025Could you tell me about the age range for the 5-day Highlands and Skye circuit? I would travel with my 20-year-old son, and I am 58 years old.
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written June 2025
We have an age limit not because of physical fitness but because our tours are designed for young backpackers who want to socialize. Our guests are mostly in their early twenties and book to meet people their age. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to take you on this tour.

Asked on June 13th, 2025The accommodations are reserved and have to be paid at the reception of Castle Rock Hostels. Is it 4x £32 = £128 and does it have to be paid in cash or by card?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written June 2025
The accommodation is £34 per night, so that would be a total of £136. When you book the tour online, please don't select accommodation - you'll just pay for this using your card when you arrive at Castle Rock Hostel.

Traveler•Written June 2025Do all the guarantee have towels, shampoo etc. or do we have to bring that?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written June 2025
You can rent towels at the hostels but usually other toiletries are not provided.

Asked on June 11th, 2025Can that be arranged or should I reach out to the hostel directly? Also, will we need to carry all luggage on walks & hikes?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written June 2025
Please reach out to the hostel directly to book your accommodation for the night before the tour. Castle Rock is where the tour departs from, but our other two hostels are also a short walk away.

Asked on May 30th, 2025I'm interested in the tour from Oct 27th-31st of this year, this does occur right after my birthday, Oct 23, born 1985. Would that kick me out of the allowed age range?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written May 2025
You are just on the cusp, so you are more than welcome to still book a tour with us. We are looking forward to having you join our adventures!

Simon
Asked on May 29th, 2025How many person by room? And is there an option to book a room for one person?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written May 2025
The accommodation will be dorms with around 8 beds. Depending on whether the tour is full there may be less people in one room. If the tour is full, there are exactly the number of beds as seats on the bus, therefore this would not be possible.

Asked on May 28th, 2025I'm an avid traveler and a part-time Travel Advisor. I'm very interested in booking this tour to experience it firsthand. I noticed that the age limit is listed as "up to 39 years old," and I'm 46. Would I still be eligible to join and book the tour departing on June 30th?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written May 2025
We can't go back on our company policy. The rule is simply to help young travellers feel they will meet friends. If we change the rule then we are just like any other tour company.

Claudia
Asked on May 19th, 2025Can this tour be done with a wheeled suitcase or only with a backpack?
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written May 2025
A wheeled suitcase will do fine, the backpacks are stored in the bus or the hostel for hikes and sightseeing.

Asked on May 16th, 2025is there age restriction as stated 39, I am just turned 53 but I am in the excellent health condition and have no health issues. This tour suites me by the dates and route so much, can you let me check in?

Tammy
Traveler•Written May 2025would it be possible to book this tour. I am looking much younger than 53
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written May 2025
we have a strict 18-39 age limit on our tours as part of the appeal of people booking with us is traveling with people your own age. Unfortunately, we aren't able to make an exception as this would go against what the other guests were expecting on tour.

Asked on May 11th, 2025Do yo have this tour for over age 39? What is the reason for the age limit!
- MacBackpackersOperator•Written May 2025
We do not have tours for people older than 40. We sometimes make exceptions if you are just over the mark but other than that we stay within our age range. The tours are specifically designed for the 18-40 age bracket and the activities, nature and style of the tours reflect that.
