- KTKieran· September 30th, 2025Great tour, and our guide Neil was fantastic - knowledgeable and engaging! Have lived in Scotland for a while but energised to explore more after this trip!Show moreTrip date: September 2025
- AXAdrian· September 29th, 2025Take this tour! The ideal length of time. I had as much fun on the bus as I did walking the sites. Accommodations were clean, well-organized and spacious. Highlights for me were hiking up to the Old Man of Storr, the Gorge, the ferry ride and our night in Oban where we joined in a Ceilidh dance night (might not be an option for all travelers depending on tour schedule). We had Mark (newest MaccyB team member) as our guide for the first 3.5 days and Branka for the remaining 1.5 days. They both oozed passion for, and knowledge of, Scotland as well as connection with travelers. Their energy is infectious and their music sensibility is off the charts! :D Their presence amplified the tour experience. The reason this specific tour was appealing was because of it's focus on being in the outdoors. The schedule was well-timed with balanced intervals on the bus and exploring. The staff truly embody their commitment to building a community between the travelers on the tour. The stories were endless, the vistas were breathtaking and the memories everlasting!Show moreTrip date: September 2025
Mohammed· September 5th, 2025There were many amazing places we were unable to go to cuz it was too crowded and the bus wasn't allowed to park there.....the time we were giving was very very short always felt like really rushed for example when we did the stor hike we were only givin 1.5 hr that's not enough at all you barely enjoy the views and it's time to get back again to the bus...Show more
MacBackpackers commented on this reviewThank you for your feedback. We’re sorry some stops felt rushed and that parking restrictions limited your time at certain sites. There is a problem with crowds in summer and we do our best to navigate the Island safely while taking you to see as much... Show moreTrip date: August 2025

I attended the tour as a local in order to see my new country and learn more about it and I wasn’t disappointed. Stuart told many great stories about Scotland and the Isle of Skye as well as made certain the group was mingling well. The trip with Macbackpackers was the highlight of my summer and I believe Stuart played a huge role in making it that way.Show more

Asked on August 25th, 2025Are the hostels ensuite, or the toilets are common use?
MacBackpackersOperator•Written August 2025The hostels are dormitory-style accommodation so you'd be sharing a room and toilet facilities.

Asked on July 10th, 2025What is max wt? Allowed small trolley bag? Food?
MacBackpackersOperator•Written July 2025MacBackpackers tours are only for 18 - 39 year old backpackers. The tours are specifically designed for this age group and the activities, nature and style of the tours reflect that.

Asked on July 9th, 2025Was wondering if there was time to explore by ourselves during any of the stops or if the days are packed with group activities?
MacBackpackersOperator•Written July 2025There are lots of group activities, but if you prefer some alone time that can be done. The bus driver will tell you a time to be back at the bus, e.g. 1-2 hours at Glencoe for example. You can choose to stay with the group and explore or take a different route and meet them back at the bus. The same goes for the hikes on the Isle of Skye which take 2-3 hours, you could do some alone as long as you don't get lost and meet them back at the bus. There will also be shorter stops for castles and other sights which are shorter and it might be easier to just stay with the group in those situations but it is very flexible how you choose to spend your time at the stops.

Asked on July 5th, 2025Would we have to get ourselves from the airport to the starting location which is the Castle Rock hostel for day 1?
MacBackpackersOperator•Written July 2025There are trams and buses which go from Edinburgh airport directly to the city centre. So the journey is very easy and straight forward

Naomi
Asked on July 3rd, 2025I'm just wondering about the age range. I'm 54 but not sure why this trip has a cut off of 39?
MacBackpackersOperator•Written July 2025Unfortunately MacBackpackers tours are for a different age group. Our tours are specifically designed for this age bracket and the activities, nature and style of the tours reflect that. Our guests are mostly in their early twenties and book with us specifically because they want to hang out and party with other people their age. That is our niche market.

Asked on June 13th, 2025Could you tell me about the age range for the 5-day Highlands and Skye circuit? I would travel with my 20-year-old son, and I am 58 years old.
MacBackpackersOperator•Written June 2025We have an age limit not because of physical fitness but because our tours are designed for young backpackers who want to socialize. Our guests are mostly in their early twenties and book to meet people their age. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to take you on this tour.
