Itinerary
- Day 1
Antigua
You'll land in Antigua and have the afternoon to check out the Spanish colonial architecture scattered through the city. If you get in early, there's plenty to wander around in the surrounding area. At 6 pm you'll have your welcome meeting, and afterward you can join the group for dinner if you'd like.

- Day 2
Antigua to Quetzaltenango
After breakfast, you're heading to San Andres Itzapa for a shamanic ceremony at the Temple of San Simon where you'll see how Maya culture and Catholicism blend together. Bring an offering of rum or tobacco (you can buy it there). From there it's on to Quetzaltenango for lunch and an orientation walk, with your evening free to do as you please.

Quetzaltenango
Early start on a chicken bus to Almolonga market, where you'll see huge vegetables and locals in traditional dress. You'll get a real feel for how the market works with all the negotiating happening around you. In the afternoon, there's an option to head to Fuentes Georginas Hot Springs where you can soak in thermal pools surrounded by cloud forest.

Quetzaltenango to Panajachel
You'll explore Chichicastenango market with a local guide, one of the largest outdoor markets in Latin America. There's plenty to browse like textiles, wooden handicrafts, jade jewellery, and ceremonial masks. Later in the day you travel to Panajachel on Lake Atitlan and have the evening to yourself.

- Day 5
Lake Atitlan to Antigua
A scenic boat ride takes you across Lake Atitlan to Santiago Atitlan, surrounded by volcanoes and Maya villages. You'll visit a local home to see the shrine of Maximon and learn about its importance, then head back to Antigua by minibus.

Antigua
This day is all yours in Antigua. Walk the streets, try roasted beans from vendors, check out the colonial ruins, or take a chocolate-making workshop or salsa lesson if you want something structured. There's a welcome meeting in the evening for travelers new to the group.

Antigua
Your leader takes you through colonial Antigua on cobblestone streets, hitting markets and museums. The afternoon opens up so you can explore on your own, relax in the plazas, or grab local food like tamales and pepian. The markets near the bus station have the best prices for meals.

Antigua to Rio Dulce
It's a long drive by private vehicle to Rio Dulce where your leader will teach you Spanish phrases along the way. You'll arrive mid-afternoon and the rest of the day is free for relaxing, taking a jungle walk, renting a kayak, or just soaking in the tropical setting.

Rio Dulce to Livingston
You're taking a boat down the river to Livingston, an Afro-Caribbean town about 30 km away. The scenery on the way is spectacular with water lilies, tropical forests, and a canyon with river birds overhead. You'll get lunch included with local specialties like tapou, a creamy fish soup.

Livingston to Flores
Travel to Flores on Lago Peten Itza and stop at Nuevo Horizonte, a community started by demobilised families after the 1998 peace accords. You'll tour their nature reserve and have lunch on the ranch while talking with locals about how the community has developed. Later your leader does an orientation walk in Flores and you explore the island's streets in the afternoon.

Flores to Belize
An early morning guided tour through Tikal National Park takes you to ancient Maya ruins deep in the jungle. You'll see limestone temples, spot coatis and howler monkeys, and learn how to make tortillas before lunch. Then you cross into Belize, the only English-speaking country in Central America.

San Ignacio
San Ignacio is yours to do with as you want. The top recommendation is hiking and wading through Actun Tunichil Muknal caves, where you'll see Maya relics and crystallised skeletons preserved for over 1400 years. Other options include Cahal Pech ruins or the Green Iguana Conservation Project if you prefer something different.

San Ignacio to Caye Caulker
A scenic boat ride gets you to Caye Caulker, a Caribbean island with 'go slow' as its motto. You'll take a golf cart to your hotel and do an orientation walk with your leader. The island is small enough to walk everywhere, but you can rent a bike to check out the palm-lined streets and beach bars. Standup paddleboarding or a sunset catamaran cruise are optional activities.

Caye Caulker is relaxing today with optional activities available. You can join a full-day boat tour for snorkeling (bring sunscreen), or just swim and lounge around. Try the local lobster if you're here June through February, or go for grilled shrimp with local rum and coke. The roadside barbequed food offers the best value.
