Itinerary
- Day 1
Fez to Merzouga
You'll start early with a pickup from your Fez accommodations, then drive through some really varied terrain. The route takes you through the alpine Middle Atlas Mountains where you can see cedar forests and Barbary apes, then passes through Ifrane, a university town that stands out for its cooler climate and European-style architecture. From there the landscape shifts as you head into the drier Ziz Valley. You'll stop in Midelt around lunchtime to eat and rest a bit before continuing on. After passing through the Tafilalt Oasis with its palm groves, you'll arrive at Merzouga by late afternoon, right at the edge of the Erg Chebbi Dunes. That evening includes dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel so you can settle in.

Merzouga
You have the flexibility to wake early if you want to catch the sunrise over the sand dunes, or you can sleep in and take your time. After breakfast, the day is pretty open. You can explore the desert around Merzouga however you prefer, whether that's walking around, photographing the landscape, or just taking in the quiet. Later in the afternoon, you'll head out on a camel trek toward a Berber camp located in the middle of the dunes. Your Berber hosts will prepare traditional desert meals for you and share their culture and way of life. Once evening comes, you can spend time around the campfire, continue exploring the desert, or climb up a sand dune to stargaze away from any light pollution.

- Day 3
Merzouga to Fez
Similar to the previous morning, you can catch the sunrise over the dunes if you're up early, or take it easy and sleep in. After a hearty breakfast, you'll camel trek back to town at the edge of the desert. Once you arrive, you'll have a chance to shower and refresh at a hotel, which feels really good after spending time in the sand. From there, it's a long drive back to Fez, so you'll want to be prepared for several hours on the road.
