Itinerary
- Day 1
Blois
You'll get to Blois on your own schedule, so timing depends on where you're coming from. Once you arrive, wander through the town if you have time to kill. The pedestrian streets have bright facades and blue roofs that show off centuries of history. The royal castle of Blois is definitely worth seeing if you get the chance, since it really shows how French architecture changed from medieval times all the way through the 17th century.
Optional Activities
- Stroll through Blois town center
- Visit the royal castle of Blois
Landmarks Château de Blois - Day 2
Blois to Amboise
Starting from Blois, you'll cycle along the south bank of the Loire through rolling hills with vineyards on either side, heading toward Cande-sur-Beuvron and then following the Beuvron back to the Loire. Along the way, you'll pass by Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire with its gardens. After that, you'll stop at a local winegrower to taste Sauvignon Blanc, then cycle on to Amboise where you can walk through Château Amboise and Clos-Lucé, the place where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years.

The castle has quite a history to it, actually, since King Henry II promised it to his mistress Diane de Poitiers, but Queen Catherine de Medici had other plans and stopped that from happening. By evening you'll arrive in Chenonceaux on the banks of the River Cher. You can take the direct route or pick the scenic option through the Loire and Cher valleys if you want to visit more castles and villages along the way.
