Itinerary
- Day 1
Georgetown
You'll arrive in Georgetown today at whatever time works for your flight. The airport transfer from either Cheddi Jagan International (about 1 hour 15 minutes) or Eugene F. Correira Airport (15 minutes) needs to be arranged beforehand. After you check into the hotel, there's nothing scheduled until 7:30pm when your Tour Leader meets you at reception for the welcome meeting. Dinner out is optional if you want to grab a meal with the group.

- Day 2
Georgetown
Start before sunrise at Bourda Market, Georgetown's largest market, where you'll meet chef Delvin Adams for breakfast at a local stand. He shows you around the market's range of goods from tamarind balls and cassava bread to fresh produce and traditional medicines. Later you'll check out the wooden cathedral, National Museum, Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology, and the Botanical Gardens. Around lunch time, Delvin meets you again at his Backyard Cafe restaurant to cook fresh Guyanese dishes using ingredients from the market. The afternoon and evening are yours to explore however you like.

- Day 3
Georgetown to Kaieteur Falls
Head to the domestic airport for a light aircraft flight to Kaieteur Falls, one of the world's highest single-drop waterfalls at 822 feet (nearly 5 times Niagara's height). The flight takes about an hour as you pass through inhabited areas then into thick rainforest. Once there, you'll walk through bromeliad-covered forest to different viewpoints for views of the falls from various angles. You'll spend roughly two hours on the ground before flying back to Georgetown.

- Day 4
Georgetown to Iwokrama River Lodge
You'll leave Georgetown early, driving through the bauxite mining township of Linden and into the rainforest. The seven to ten hour journey along the interior access road is excellent for spotting birds, flowers, and possibly sloths. After crossing the Essequibo River by pontoon, you reach Iwokrama River Lodge, your base for the night in a vast one-million-acre wilderness area, one of the last four truly untouched tropical forests.

- Day 5
Iwokrama River Lodge
There's an optional pre-dawn boat trip around Indian House Island (about 1 hour) where you might see butterflies, snakes, howler monkeys, and macaws. Following breakfast, you'll take a motorboat to the Turtle Mountain trailhead for a hike through the forest to the 360-metre summit with panoramic views and chances to spot eagles. In the afternoon, explore lodge trails with an Iwokrama Ranger, and later there's an optional night-time boat trip to look for caiman and nocturnal birds.

Iwokrama to Atta Rainforest Lodge
You'll take a morning walk at Iwokrama, then drive along forest trails searching for jaguars and other wildlife. The journey continues to Atta Rainforest Lodge at the reserve's southern edge. The main event is the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, four suspension bridges leading to observation decks up to 30 metres high where you can see the mid and upper-level forest canopy plus canopy-dwelling birds and monkeys.

Atta Rainforest Lodge
Today is relaxed with optional pre-dawn canopy birdwatching if you're interested. The rest of the day is flexible for exploring the forest trails around the lodge with or without a guide. You'll have chances to see deer, tapir, and agouti, plus birds, insects, and amphibians. Optional night-time activities include walks around the access trail or an evening vehicle safari searching for jaguars.

Atta Lodge to Surama
You'll leave Atta Lodge and travel through rainforest to Corkwood for a short trail looking for the brilliant Guianan cock-of-the-rock while guides explain medicinal plant uses. Then it's on to Surama, an indigenous community in the savannah area surrounded by forest-covered Pakaraima Mountains. You'll settle into the community-owned eco-lodge, take a short nature walk, visit the village, and experience a night walk to observe insects and amphibians.

Surama
Wake before dawn for a nature walk across the savannah to observe birdlife, then return to the lodge for breakfast. Your Tour Leader offers the option to hike Surama Mountain, a steep hike with rocks and boulders, or you can stay at the lodge relaxing in hammocks. After lunch at the village, you'll take indigenous dugout canoes upstream on the Burro Burro River to spot kingfisher, ibis, and possibly giant river otters while local guides discuss medicinal plants.

Surama to Rock View Lodge, Annai
It's a 45-minute drive from Surama to Rock View Lodge in nearby Annai, located where the Pakaraima mountain foothills meet the tropical rainforest as a transition zone between savannah and forest. You'll spend the day birdwatching on nature trails searching for vibrant macaws and birds of prey, and trying to spot larger savannah mammals like anteaters, armadillos, sloths, or giant river otters.

- Day 11
Annai to Georgetown
There's one final chance to watch dawn breaking across the interior with optional pre-dawn birdwatching through the forest, or you can relax around the lodge before breakfast. You'll drive several hours south across the savannah to Lethem, a town near the Brazil border, to catch your flight back to Georgetown. The rest of the day in the city is yours to spend as you like, maybe heading to the seawall in the evening where Sunday nights bring a lively atmosphere with food and drink vendors.

- Day 12
Georgetown
The trip ends after breakfast at your hotel. There's an optional pre-dawn excursion to the Mahaica River to spot Guyana's national bird, the hoatzin. The road runs parallel to farming communities with rice and crop cultivation. You'll take a boat ride to explore the riverfront ecosystem with hoatzin, egret, heron, ibis, and other marsh birds. After that, you'll depart Georgetown at any time, with airport transfers available from either Cheddi Jagan International or Eugene F. Correira Airport.
