Your motorbike journey starts by riding dyke roads that follow the Red River toward Thac Ba Lake. The route takes you through countryside dotted with rice paddies and green tea fields, passing small villages along the way. By afternoon you'll reach Vu Linh village, where the Dzao ethnic minority community lives. Settling in for a home-stay here gives you a chance to experience daily life in this welcoming area and spend time with local families.

Thac Ba Lake to Ha Giang
After breakfast, ride along Thac Ba Lake on narrow palm-lined roads with mountain views surrounding you on all sides. The day's main goal is reaching Ha Giang on Road 2, which involves some steady riding through changing landscapes. Once there, you'll handle the important task of applying for your border permit at Immigration Police before settling in for the night. This paperwork is essential for tomorrow's mountain riding ahead.

- Day 3
Ha Giang to Dong Van
With your permit in hand, the real mountain riding begins. You'll tackle challenging roads through hill-tribe regions leading up to Ma Pi Leng Pass, where cloudy mountain ranges and the Nho Que River create dramatic views below. From there, navigate zig-zag tracks to Vuong Family's Residence, a striking structure built from wood and rock located 14km before Dong Van. Later, wander through Dong Van Town's old streets and see the centuries-old H'mong houses that line them.

Dong Van to Ba Be National Park
Ride through Ha Giang province on wild terrain, crossing through Meo Vac on the Rock Plateau sitting over 1000m high. The landscape here is rough but visually striking, home to H'mong and other ethnic groups living in remote areas. After lunch, head down into Bac Kan Province and board a local boat for a ride on the Na Hang Hydro Power reservoir toward a village near Dau Dang waterfall. Check in for a home-stay in Ba Be National Park as evening falls.

- Day 5
Ba Be National Park to Hanoi
Start early for this longer day. After breakfast, take a second boat ride across Ba Be Lake to the opposite shore, then continue on your motorbike to Cho Ra and connect to main Road 3 heading back toward Hanoi. Time your ride to avoid the rush hour traffic. Before leaving, take time to see Ba Be Lake itself—a freshwater karst lake that's one of a kind, with a bioreserve holding rare plant and animal species throughout the area.
