Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Strasbourg

You'll arrive in Strasbourg and check into your hotel. After settling in, take some time to wander around the city on your own. The Gothic cathedral is worth seeing, and the historic center has plenty of narrow streets to explore. Since it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll find the architecture and layout reflect centuries of history. Plan to spend the afternoon or early evening getting oriented to the area.

Head out from Strasbourg on your bike today, following the Rhône-Rhine canal. You're cycling toward one of three towns: Osthouse, Saint-Hippolyte, or Sélestat. Each one has old buildings and architectural details from earlier centuries worth noticing as you ride through. The route itself runs alongside the water, making for a pleasant day of cycling. Distance and difficulty will depend on which town you choose as your destination.

After that, get back on your bike and ride through the Ried region's traditional villages. The landscape here includes waterways that support different plants and animals. Continue along the canal and you'll arrive in Colmar by late afternoon. The historic center there is well-maintained, and it's known for art galleries and museums throughout the old town.

Today's bike ride takes you from Colmar to Neuf-Brisach, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built as a fortress by the military architect Vauban. From there, head south to Ottmarsheim to see the 12th-century Romanesque church. The route continues through the Hardt forest and back along the canal toward Mulhouse. You'll arrive in Mulhouse by evening, a city that mixes older buildings with newer development and has a well-known automobile museum.

Later, drive to Ungersheim to see the Écomusée d'Alsace, an open-air museum set up like an Alsatian village from the 1900s. If time allows, you can also visit Murbach Monastery, which had significant power and influence during the medieval period. Plan to return to Mulhouse by evening.

Each town has local winemakers with tasting rooms, and the Vosges mountains form the backdrop. The villages themselves have maintained their character, with narrow streets and half-timbered houses. Plan to spend time at a few places and potentially taste some wines.

The important things worked well - the hotels were very good.... In the details were a few things that can definitely be avoided with a little more commitment. 3 weeks to confirm booking - travel documents I had to complain 4 days before departure.... annoying detail - when you get the message on Good Friday, the documents take place a week before the start what would have been Easter Monday and Thursday is still no tour description there.... The tour description was loveless - partly strange route guidance - and at the end in the tour description as final destination "Hotel Europa" was indicated... only that the hotel owner had no reservation - correct would have been the hotel right next to it.... Nothing substantial - but annoying... with 4 stars I am generous.- the vacation itself is super recommendable and the commitment of Tourradar itself was impeccable.
