Villach to Klagenfurt
Your cycling adventure begins on the Drau cycle path heading east through farmland. You'll pedal to Velden on Lake Wörthersee, known for its turquoise water. From there, the route continues through rolling hills and valleys, passing four lakes near Keutschach Seental. By evening you'll roll into Klagenfurt via the Lend canal, having covered roughly 70 kilometers for the day.

Klagenfurt to Lake Klopeiner See
Start the day walking through Klagenfurt's old town, which has a real southern feel with winding streets and arcaded courtyards built by Italian architects centuries ago. After breakfast, cycle out along the Glan river toward the Drau, then head east on the Drau cycle path. You'll pass the Völkermarkter reservoir and finish at Lake Klopeiner, Austria's warmest lake. A swim here is a nice way to end the day before heading to your accommodation.

Lake Klopeiner See to Hochosterwitz
Leave Lake Klopeiner and cycle back along the Völkermarkter reservoir, then follow the Glan-Gurk cycle path around the town of Völkermarkt. The route takes you through typical Carinthian villages and landscapes. Later in the day you'll reach Castle Hochosterwitz, an impressive fortress sitting on a 150-meter chalk rock. The area has several other castles and palaces worth seeing if you have time to explore.

Hochosterwitz to Villach
Cycle to St. Veit and spend time in this historic town with its medieval walls, Renaissance houses, and Herzogsburg castle. From there, head west along the Glan river toward Glanegg and its castle ruins. Pass through Feldkirchen with its wooded surroundings and old palaces, then reach Lake Ossiach. The final leg takes you back to Villach, completing the loop through Carinthia.
