Blankenburg
You'll arrive in Blankenburg and check into your country wellness hotel right in the center of town. Once you're settled in, you'll have dinner with your guide and the other travelers in your group to get everyone acquainted and start things off.

Landmarks Blankenburg - Day 2
Regenstein Castle - Michaelstein Monastery
After breakfast, you'll head out on your first hike starting right from the hotel. The route takes you through pine forests where you'll see sandstone cliffs before reaching Regenstein Castle. You can walk through the medieval fortress and check out its rock-carved rooms, then continue onward through more forest and along streams until you reach Michaelstein Monastery, which was once run by Cistercian monks and now functions as a music academy and museum.

Bode Valley - Thale - Rosstrappe
Your hike today covers part of the Hexenstieg, starting in Treseburg along the Bode River. You'll walk through the Bode Valley, known locally as the 'Grand Canyon' of the Harz Mountains because of how dramatically the river has carved through the rock. From there, you'll reach Thale and make your way up Rosstrappe mountain using the Schurre trail for good views of the valley below. The descent back to Thale goes through forest with a gentler slope.

Landmarks Bode Valley Rosstrappe Thale - Day 4
Brocken Mountain
You're climbing Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz at 1,141 meters, taking the most scenic path up. From the bare summit with its weather station, the views are worth the effort, and if the day is clear, you can see all the way to Grosser Inselberg in Thuringia. Your guide will share local myths and stories about the mountain. Coming down follows the Goethe Trail where you might see historic steam locomotives, which make for good photos.

Landmarks Brocken Großer Inselberg - Day 5
Blankenburg or Optional Excursions
Today gives you flexibility to do what you want. You can relax in your hotel's wellness area, or if you prefer to stay active, your guide can take you on an optional morning trip to Quedlinburg, a UNESCO site with a charming old town and winding cobbled streets. Wernigerode is another option if you'd rather go there instead. It's entirely up to you.

Landmarks Quedlinburg Wernigerode - Day 6
Devil's Wall - Teufelsstieg Trail
You'll hike the Teufelsstieg trail, which winds through striking rock formations that make up the Devil's Wall, formed about 85 million years ago. Starting in Neinstedt, you'll pass the Mittelstein and Weddersleben Devil's Wall before heading toward Blankenburg. The best part comes along the ridge where Grandfather Rock and the Hamburg Coat of Arms rock formation are located and worth exploring.
