Itinerary
- Day 1
Gosau
You'll arrive in Gosau Valley and get settled into your accommodation. This region is part of the Northern Alps and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site back in 1997. The valley has two lakes, and you'll receive all your travel documents and information for the coming days here.

Hofpürgl Hut
Start the day taking the Gosaukammbahn cable car up to 1,475 meters at Zwieselalm. From there you'll hike the Bible Trail, named for Bible prints that were smuggled through here during the Counter-Reformation. The route crosses alpine pastures with views on all sides, circles around the Bischofsm\u00fctze peak, and ends at Hofp\u00fcrgl Hut on a scenic terrace. Plan for about 4 hours 30 minutes of hiking over roughly 10 km with noticeable elevation changes.

Ramsau am Dachstein
You'll hike the Salzburger Almenweg Alpine Trail through unusual limestone rock formations. The route passes through the Rinderfeld with its distinctive limestone blocks and clear streams. You'll climb to the Tor, the highest point where Salzburg and Styria meet, then walk beneath steep cliff faces of Torstein, Mitterspitz, and Hoher Dachstein on your way to Dachstein S\u00fcdwand Hut. The day finishes with a descent into Ramsau, a mountaineering village on a plateau. Expect about 6 hours of hiking covering around 12.5 km with significant elevation changes.

Ramsau am Dachstein
Today you'll explore Ramsau am Dachstein, a village that draws skiers in winter but has plenty to do year-round. You can visit the swimming pool to relax, or head up Rittisberg where there are family-friendly adventure stations and a summer toboggan run. The location offers fresh mountain air and a quiet, charming atmosphere.

Guttenberghaus
You'll hike to the Guttenberghaus at 2,147 meters, a rustic alpine hut that's been around for over 100 years. You have two route choices: a direct hike from your hotel through sparse forest and alpine meadows (4 to 5 hours), or take the Dachstein cable car and hike across the glacier with broader views (also 4 to 5 hours). Either way you'll see impressive vistas across Ramsau, the Enns Valley, and the Niedere and Hohe Tauern mountains.

Gröbming
You'll hike along the northern slope of Sinabell, past rocks, mountain pines, and ravines across the Am Stein plateau. The early part of the route has barren, rocky terrain, then later descends back through meadows and forests. You'll take a break at Grafenbergalm to rest and take in the views. The day ends at a collection of huts and an inn at the base of Stoderzinken, a beautiful panoramic mountain in northern Styria. This is about 6 hours of hiking covering roughly 13 km.

Bad Mitterndorf
This hike takes you through a larch forest and past pines to an old packhorse and smuggler's trail. The path winds through a 30-meter gorge with UNESCO-protected rock carvings, and you'll take a break at Viebergalm mountain hut. From Hochm\u00fchleck with its views of the remote Kemet Mountains, you'll continue through forest near Steinitzenalm mountain hut, then descend to Bad Mitterndorf. This is a longer day with about 7 hours of hiking over roughly 22 km and significant descent.

Hallstatt
After taking the train from Bad Mitterndorf to Bad Aussee, you'll hike through the Koppental Valley alongside the Traun River toward Obertraun. You'll cross a suspension bridge over the Sarstein area, then follow the Koppentraun River where you might see fly fishermen at work. Later you'll stop at Koppental Mountain Hut, walk through an old railway tunnel, and visit the Koppenbillerhohle water cave. The final stretch takes you along the eastern shore to Hallstatt train station, then a ferry ride across the lake to reach Hallstatt. This covers roughly 15 km over about 4 hours 30 minutes of hiking.

Gosau
You'll follow the Bibelsteig trail back to Gosau through Iglmoosalm. As you hike, the towers of the Gosaukamm mountain range come into view, a range that formed 200 million years ago from a coral reef in warm seawater. This shorter day is about 3 hours of hiking over roughly 7 km with significant descent, and it brings you back to where you started in Gosau.

Landmarks/POIs Iglmoosalm Gosaukamm Gosau Lakes - Day 10
Goiserer Hut
Starting with a ferry crossing Lake Hallstatt from the market square to the train station on the opposite shore, you'll hike the eastern shore trail and cross a suspension bridge over the deepest part of the lake. The shoreline walk offers views of mountains in the Salzkammergut region. From Bad Goisern you'll ascend through Trockentannalm to reach the Goiserer Hut at 1,592 meters, where you can relax on the terrace with a snack. This is a long hiking day of about 7 hours covering roughly 17 km.
