Itinerary
- Day 1
Arusha/Moshi to Machame Camp
Start by driving 2 hours from Arusha or Moshi to Machame Village, where the real climbing begins. From there, you'll hike 5-7 hours up to Machame Camp, gaining about 1200 meters to reach 3000 meters altitude. The trail climbs steadily through forest, and by evening you'll settle in at camp for dinner and your first night on the mountain.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Today's hike covers 6km from Machame Camp to Shira Camp, taking 5-7 hours as you gain 840 meters. You'll reach 3840 meters altitude, and the main goal here is getting your body used to the thinner air. The landscape starts opening up as you move higher, leaving some of the forest behind.

- Day 3
Shira Camp to Karanga Valley Camp
This is a shorter day, which feels nice after the longer hikes. You'll walk 4.5km in about 3 hours, crossing above 4000 meters for the first time and reaching Karanga Valley Camp at 4200 meters. The 250-meter gain is gentler, giving your body more time to adjust before things get tougher.

- Day 4
Karanga Valley Camp
Another lighter day at Karanga Valley Camp where you're mostly resting and acclimatizing. There's a 4.5km hike that takes 3 hours with 250 meters elevation gain, so you stay active without pushing too hard. At 4200 meters, it's still challenging but the slower pace helps your system adapt.

- Day 5
Karanga Valley Camp to Barafu Camp
Time to move closer to the summit with a 4.5km hike lasting 3 hours up to Barafu Camp at 4700 meters. You'll gain 500 meters, which is noticeable but manageable. This is the last camp before your summit attempt, so you'll want to rest well and prepare mentally for the challenging night ahead.

- Day 6
Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
This is the big day. You'll wake in the middle of the night and start hiking to Uhuru Peak, gaining 1186 meters over 6-7 hours to reach 5986 meters at sunrise. The views from the summit are what you came for, and after time at the top, you'll descend 12km over 5-7 hours to Mweka Camp at 3096 meters. It's exhausting but incredible.

Mweka Camp to Moshi/Arusha
Your last stint on the mountain takes 3-4 hours as you hike down 10km to 1600 meters altitude, completing your descent. After finishing the trek, you'll transfer back to Moshi or Arusha, where you can rest and celebrate finishing Kilimanjaro.
