Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Paro to Thimphu
Your flight into Bhutan offers potential views of the eastern Himalayan peaks including Mount Everest if weather cooperates. Once you land at Paro airport and finish up with visa procedures, your guide will meet you for the drive to Thimphu. You'll stop at Tachog Lhakhang and Buddha Point before settling into your hotel. Later in the evening, there's a forest hike at Wangditse to help shake off the travel fatigue and get oriented to the area.

Thimphu to Punakha
The drive to Punakha takes roughly 2 hours, and you'll pass through Dochula Pass where 108 stupas stand as a tribute from the Queen Mother. It's a good spot to stop for tea and take in the mountain views. From there, you'll check out the grand Punakha Dzong sitting at the confluence of two rivers, then hike through lush paddy fields to Chimi Lhakhang. Along the way, you'll walk through Sopsokha village, known for its distinctive traditional phallus paintings.

Punakha to Paro
After driving back to Paro (about 40 minutes to the trailhead), you'll hike up to Tiger's Nest Monastery, also called Taktsang. The ascent generally takes 2 to 4 hours depending on your fitness level, and the descent takes 1 to 2 hours. Once you finish the hike and catch your breath from those views, you'll relax with a hot stone bath infused with aromatic herbs to ease your muscles.
