  1. Day 1

    Yellowknife

    You'll arrive in Yellowknife and meet your tour guide at the airport, then get transferred to your hotel. After a brief orientation with fellow travelers, the rest of the day is yours to walk around the city, which sits right next to the Great Slave Lake. It's a good chance to get your bearings and grab a meal somewhere local.

  2. Day 2

    Yellowknife

    Head out early along the Ingraham Trail to see Cameron Falls and Prelude Lake. You can do boating, canoeing, or hiking depending on what you're in the mood for, and there's a picnic stop included. Then you'll head back to Yellowknife in the evening to check out some bars or restaurants if you want to get out again.

  3. Day 3

    Yellowknife to Fort Providence

    This day focuses on Yellowknife's main attractions like the Prince-of-Wales cultural center and the igloo parliament building. From there you'll drive through the Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary toward Fort Providence, stopping at Chan Lake for lunch. Keep your eyes open for wildlife during the drive, and later in the evening there's a chance to catch the northern lights.

  4. Day 4

    Fort Providence to Hay River

    Stop at a local craft store in Fort Providence to see moose hair woven goods before heading to Hay River. This town is where Great Slave Lake tours start from and it's famous from the Ice Pilots TV show. You might spot Buffalo Air planes while you're there, which is pretty cool if you're interested in aviation.

  5. Day 5

    Hay River

    You'll hike 2 km through Twin Falls Gorge Territorial Park between Alexandra and Louise Falls. These waterfalls are carved through 400-million-year-old rock and hold significance for the Dene First Nations. Watch for bears, lynx, foxes, wolves, and moose as you make your way through the area.

  6. Day 6

    Hay River to Fort Simpson

    After breakfast, drive toward Fort Simpson and stop to see Lady Evelyn Falls or McNallie Creek Falls along the way. There's a picnic with nice river views, and you'll reach Fort Simpson at the confluence of the Liard and Mackenzie Rivers. Check out the information center to learn about Nahanni National Park tours, and you'll be staying in this town for the next 3 days.

  7. Days 7 - 8

    Fort Simpson

    Spend two days based in Fort Simpson with plenty to choose from. One day includes a sightseeing flight over Nahanni National Park on a small bush plane, with options to land near Virginia Falls. The other day you can explore Fort Simpson itself or try motorboat rides on the Mackenzie River, paddling the South Nahanni or Flat River, or hiking mountain and canyon trails.

    Fort Simpson to Fort Nelson

    Drive south on the Liard Highway from Fort Simpson with panoramic views of the Nahanni Mountains and Liard River. You'll pass through Blackstone Territorial Park and then Fort Liard, which is known for handmade birch bark baskets decorated with Dene First Nations ornaments. Cross into British Columbia and arrive at Fort Nelson in the evening.

  9. Day 10

    Fort Nelson to Muncho Lake

    Travel toward Muncho Lake through remote northeast British Columbia where wildlife viewing is almost guaranteed. Look for Mountain Goats, Bison, Moose, Caribou, Elks, Wolves, Coyotes, Foxes, Lynx, and Black and Brown Bears. Bring your camera because the opportunities for photos in this area are really good.

  10. Day 11

    Muncho Lake

    Experience the Rocky Mountains within the Muskwa-Kechika National Park. Hike mountain trails in Muncho Lake Provincial Park with scenery all around, and do some canoe paddling or other outdoor activities to relax. If you want to, head to Liard Hot Springs in the evening to soak and unwind.

    Muncho Lake to Watson Lake

    Follow the Alaska Highway into the Yukon and reach Watson Lake. The main stop here is the Sign Post Forest with over 72,000 signs from around the world, and you can add your own if you want. In the evening, head to the Northern Lights Space and Science Center to see a show about the northern lights.

  12. Day 13

    Watson Lake to Whitehorse

    Continue on the Alaska Highway and cross the Nisutlin Bay Bridge, the longest bridge on this route. You'll drive through Teslin and past Marsh Lake while learning about ALCAN Highway construction history. By evening you'll reach Whitehorse, Yukon's capital, and can take a walk along the Yukon River to stretch your legs.

  13. Day 14

    Whitehorse to Skagway (Day Trip)

    Take a day trip south from Whitehorse on the Klondike Highway to Skagway, an old Alaskan town. You'll pass through different ecoregions and alpine landscapes, cross the continental divide, and see Emerald Lake with its extraordinary colors. Stop at Carcross village and pass through the famous White Pass on your way to the coast. Optionally take the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad for great views. Return to Whitehorse for a final farewell dinner.

Klondike paddle wheeler from the gold rush era, or visit other historic sites connected to the area's gold rush past. Ruby Range will take care of your transportation to the airport or to your next destination.

      we have two departures of our "Discover the NWT" tour in July 2025: 06.07.-20.07.2025 Whitehorse to Yellowknife, 20.07.-03.08.2025 Yellowknife to Whitehorse. As this is a sightseeing tour/bus/hotel tour, no longer walks or hikes are planned. Lots of our sightseeing clients are in your age range, so this should be no problem.
