Itinerary

Day 1
Merzouga
A driver picks you up from Merzouga or the village center this morning to start crossing Erg Chebbi, which holds the distinction of being the largest and highest red sand dunes in Southeast Morocco. Along the way you'll pass through the Oasis of Tsardmine, Azrkam, and Saf Saf. Around midday you'll have a picnic lunch, then head back to settle in at your Riad in Merzouga or Hassilabied for dinner.

Day 2
Merzouga
After eating breakfast at your Riad, you'll ride about 15 km into the dunes and reach the Mines of M'fis, a historic site where lead and zinc were pulled from the ground and used to make Khol. From there you'll visit a local Berber family living in their tents with goats, sheep, and donkeys, and learn to make Berber Pizza cooked over a fire. Lunch happens at their home, and then you head back to your Riad where dinner waits in the evening.

Merzouga
Following breakfast at your Riad, you'll head into Erg Chebbi Dunes for a 50 km ride through the big dunes on the former Paris-Dakar Rallye route. This morning and afternoon you'll visit a nomad family in the desert and have a picnic lunch out there. The tour wraps up by late afternoon when you'll head back.

We had a great trip with our guide Hassan and his well-maintained 4x4 Defender. Although some areas of our tour were not accessible because of heavy rain the weeks before, Hassan spontaneously changed the route and hotels. He was very flexible, well organised and punctual. Hotels and food were very nice. Our kids (10 and 13) also enjoyed the adventure-like holiday. Thanks to the many languages Hassan speaks, conversation was no problem for them. It was definitely not our last trip to Morocco and not our last with Hassan. I can recommend the tour, Hassan and his company Explore Morocco Travel.

My wife and I had the pleasure of a 4 day tour, driven and escorted by IBrhaim. We were fortunate in that we ended up the only passengers for our trip, so it made it easier for him and us. His English was good and driving was excellent, which was important seeing we drove a long distance. Everything from the accommodation to food supplied surpassed our expectations. Payment information
- For any tour departing before January 5th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after January 5th, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Explore Morocco Travel. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
