I was travelling solo, and all I experienced was daily tours with different people each time. The guides were wonderful and took us to the best of Sao Miguel, but I stayed at the hotel by myself and that was disappointing and somewhat lonely. I would recommend a different whale watching company for a larger boat, you can't see anything when you're at sea level and the boat was uncomfortable. I also would recommend a different tour for the Nordeste day - it's too many hours in the car. We didn't go to the liquor company on one of the days. But I really liked the sete cidades day and the tea plantation/hotsprings day. The hotel was great, clean, big rooms and in a great location. The tour guides were courteous and attentive. This is a semi private tour, meaning the day tours are with a group and accommodations, meals and transfers are private. The accommodations are 4* hotels, centrally located like Vila Gale Collection São Miguel or Hotel Marina Atlantico. There's no problem in stayin in separate rooms, you can book the tour for 4 people and automatically we book 2 rooms.
