  • Laos Dirty Motorcycle Tour to Viengthong, Viengxay, Phonsavanh, Vang Vieng, Plain of Jars, Xaisomboune reviewer 1
    · April 10th, 2020
7 day Nothern Laos Motorcycle tour. Mr Dong was excellent to deal with in setting this up for us. Four of us old guys from NZ (late 60's early 70's with mostly road bike and some gravel experience) did the 7 day tour of Northern Laos starting in Luang Prabang. The CFR250 arrived in morning and were well maintained. These bikes proved excellent for this tour as there was dirt, gravel as well as pavement with potholes to negotiate. Yee our guide was excellent. He had a good grasp of English as well as a sense of humour and fitted in well with our group. He was ever willing to provide information on Laos culture and went out of his way to visit schools where we gave out soccer balls, school stationery etc and stop off at villages where we met the locals. He was a proficient dirt rider and always checked our progress to ensure our safety. I would recommend to do this tour in their Winter from December when a bit drier as it would be technically very challenging in wet. We had our luggage transported daily to our accommodation by truck. The country up North is very rugged with endless mountain passes and switchbacks providing excellent riding. The 250c bikes were good at carving through the traffic (lots of trucks). As its up high in altitude the mornings can be cold but the days were mostly between 20-25C so very pleasant in a mesh jacket. Recommend mx boots and gear for this type of riding (we provided our own). For this particular trip I would recommend extending it 1 additional day to stay in Vang Vieng to do the tubing. This was an excellent trip and all of us felt one of the best we have ever had. Thanks Mr Dong!
