Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kuching

    You'll arrive in Kuching and meet your tour leader in the late afternoon for a briefing and bike fitting. From there, head out on the heritage trail following the White Rajah's history. Walk through the Main Bazaar and Old Town, then check out the Square Tower at the stone jetty. After that, cross the Sarawak River by traditional sampan to reach Fort Margherita. The day finishes with a sunset dinner along the riverbank, giving you a nice introduction to the city's character.

  2. Day 2

    Kuching to Sadong Jaya

    After a quick transfer to avoid Kuching traffic, you'll take a traditional sampan boat to the isolated mangrove island of Beliong. Cycle through gravel roads, mangrove forests, paddy fields, and Malay fishing villages along the way. Stop to see Beliong Temple, then cross the Sabang River by wooden boat. You'll visit a local fishing market before continuing along scenic river bunds to Asajaya for lunch. Later, ride to a Malay homestay at Sadong Jaya and have home-cooked Bugis Malay dinner with your hosts.

  3. Day 3

    Sadong Jaya to Kampung Maludam

    Continue cycling north-eastward on flat roads, crossing two major Borneo rivers, one via a huge bridge and another using a unique community car ferry. Arrive at Kampung Hilir Maludam, a peaceful Malay fishing village, and check into a local hotel. Then take a 45-minute boat ride to remote Maludam National Park to search for proboscis monkeys and endangered Red Banded Langurs. Spend the afternoon walking through the quaint fishing village famous for jellyfish and dried fish processing, then head to the old town area for local dinner.

  4. Day 4

    Kampung Maludam to Betong

    Start with an early breakfast, then head out on a cruise within Maludam National Park searching for proboscis monkeys and Red Banded Langurs. After the cruise, drive along the scenic coastal road and cross by ferry into Pusa, an outpost town where you'll have lunch. Then cycle westward into Borneo's interior through secondary forests, rubber and palm plantations into Iban communities territory. Arrive in Betong township and visit Fort Lily, built in 1855, to learn about Iban chief Rentap's challenge to the Rajah and see cannons preserved in the district office. Overnight at a comfortable 2-star hotel.

  5. Day 5

    Betong to Banting Longhouse

    After breakfast, drive 90 minutes to Sri Aman and get back on your bike to ride along the mighty Batang Lupar River. You'll cycle past longhouse villages, farms and paddy fields, and if luck is on your side, catch the natural phenomenon of tidal bore roar during your ride. Make detours to explore interesting longhouses and take in the scenic river views. At Lingga jetty, board traditional longboats to travel Sarawak's historic waterways. Disembark at Banting, an old Iban rallying point, and visit St. Paul's Church standing since 1859 atop the rocky hill. Explore the village, see local handicrafts like mat-making and weaving, and visit rice fields and vegetable gardens. Overnight at the longhouse with simple facilities, sleeping under mosquito nets and experiencing authentic longhouse hospitality.

  6. Day 6

    Banting to Kuching

    Say goodbye to your longhouse hosts and set off by longboat to Lingga bazaar, the center of lower Batang Lupar, for a coffee shop breakfast. Drive 40 minutes back to Sri Aman and visit Fort Alice, built in 1864 and perched on a riverside hillock with commanding views of the river. After lunch, return to Kuching for a relaxing drive while you reflect on your adventure. The day ends with one final meal together at Topspot Food Center in Kuching, where the good food of Sarawak comes together in a casual but seriously excellent setting.
