Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll fly into Paro valley and connect with your guide for the drive to Thimphu. Along the way, there's a stop at Tachhog Lhakhang temple, where you can walk across its famous iron chain bridge. After checking into your hotel, you'll head to Tashichoe Dzong and catch some local archery competitions. By evening, take a walk through Thimphu to get a feel for the city's atmosphere.

Thimphu
This morning starts early at Buddha Dordenma statue for sunrise, then you'll visit the National Memorial Chorten. Next comes an easy 1.5-hour hike through pine forests leading to Wangditse Temple. If you're interested, there's an optional visit to Dechenphodrang Monastery where you can meet young monks. Later, browse the Authentic Bhutanese Crafts Bazaar to pick up souvenirs before heading back.

Thimphu to Punakha
You're heading to Punakha today with a stop at Dochu La Pass (3,100m/10,170 ft) for hot coffee and views of 108 stupas and Himalayan peaks. From there, you'll descend through changing vegetation to reach the golden valley. Walk through Sopsokha village's traditional houses and rice fields to reach Chimi Lhakhang temple, and finish with a visit to the intricately carved Punakha Dzong.

Punakha to Paro
The drive from Punakha back to Paro includes an optional stop at the Royal Botanical Garden if you're interested in exploring 125 acres of rhododendrons (best April to June). You can try boating or lakeside walks there. Once you arrive in Paro, check into your hotel and spend the afternoon wandering through town to see traditional Bhutanese architecture on your own.

Paro
Today you're hiking to Tiger's Nest Monastery, perched on a cliff at 3,120m/10,235 ft above sea level. Your guide will explain Guru Rinpoche's arrival in the 8th century and his three-month meditation here. Later, you'll visit Kichu Temple, one of the oldest temples in the region built in the 7th century by Emperor Songtsen Gampo of Tibet.
