He also re-arranged our transfer to the airport at short notice. We found the people to be friendly and felt safe even in Bangkok walking about at night. First of all, I thought that a French-speaking guide would be present, but unfortunately this was not the case. What's more, I paid more than I was originally quoted. When I arrived at the airport, I quickly found the person holding a sign with my name on it. He immediately drove me to a vehicle and dropped me off at my hotel. The hotel was not luxurious but well located. The windows were locked for security reasons, which bothered me a little. Breakfast was decent, even if it didn't really suit my tastes. However, the place was clean and the staff smiling. On the first day, I was free. I took the opportunity to wander around on my own and explore the city on my own. On the second day, as planned at 8am, my guide picked me up and we visited several temples. I found this day a bit excessive in terms of temple visits. Bangkok offers so much more to discover, and devoting the only day there solely to temples seemed a bit of a shame. So I decided to explore on my own. I visited Thailand's tallest tower, a large central park, and also explored Chinatown. The next day, I flew to Chiang Mai. Once again, I had no trouble finding the driver, who took me to my hotel. I really liked this hotel: it had a swimming pool and good food. I was free that day too. The following day, we visited the White Temple, the Black Temple and the Blue Temple. Then another day was devoted to waterfalls and rice paddies - a wonderful experience. Afterwards, I took part in an optional excursion to see the elephants. We fed, washed and cuddled them. An unforgettable experience. I then flew to Phuket. Unfortunately, I didn't like the hotel there at all. It was old, poorly ventilated, and the staff, especially in the restaurant, were quite unpleasant. There wasn't even a laundry service. On the first day, I was free. The next day, I joined an optional excursion to visit some islands. The next day, I explored the beaches on my own. Overall, my time in Phuket felt a little empty. Spending only 1 day in Bangkok and 3 days in Phuket for a 9-day trip doesn't seem balanced to me. Another point to note: the return flight from Phuket to Bangkok was not included in the tour, which disappointed me a little. Despite this, I enjoyed the trip overall, particularly the Chiang Mai region. The guides were on the whole attentive, the hotels decent (except for Phuket), and the lunches acceptable. Finally, I'd like to mention a payment problem: I mistakenly made the same payment twice to TourRadar. I waited two weeks for a refund, which is apparently a normal delay. So I can say that TourRadar is a reliable site.
