Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi
A driver meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and takes you to your hotel in Moshi. You'll have the rest of the day to settle in, get acclimated, and prepare yourself mentally for the trek ahead. This is a good time to organize your gear and get some rest before things get challenging.

Nale Moru to First Cave Camp
Your trek starts at Nale Moru village early in the morning. The route takes you through cultivated farmland and pine forest over 3-4 hours. Keep an eye out for Kilimanjaro Colobus monkeys hanging in the trees. By afternoon you'll reach First Cave Camp, which sits right at the edge of the moorland zone where the landscape opens up considerably.

Landmarks First Cave Camp Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 3
First Cave Camp to Third Cave Camp
Today's hike climbs steadily toward Second Cave, and the views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields become really nice as you gain elevation. After reaching Second Cave, you'll push on to Third Cave Camp. The full trek from First Cave takes about 3-4 hours, so by evening you're settled at higher altitude and feeling the thinner air.

Third Cave Camp to Kibo Hut
You continue climbing on Kibo's east side, moving across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Hut. Once you arrive, that's pretty much it for the day. You'll rest and try to sleep as much as possible, eating light meals and drinking lots of water. The real work starts around midnight when you begin your summit push.

Landmarks Kibo Hut Mawenzi - Day 5
Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Camp
Around midnight you start the final push with steep scree climbing toward Gilman's Point. The hike is tough and takes most of the early morning, but reaching the point near sunrise is pretty special. From there, continuing to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point at 19,341 feet, takes roughly three more hours if you choose the optional excursion. After reaching your peak goal, you descend back to Kibo Hut for rest, then continue down to Horombo Camp. This full day runs 11-15 hours total, so it's exhausting.

Horombo Camp to Moshi
After breakfast and some sleep, you make a steady descent through moorland toward Mandara Hut. The landscape shifts as you drop in elevation. Later in the day you enter lush forest and work your way down to the National Park gate at Marangu. The whole trek down takes 5-7 hours. Once finished, a driver transfers you back to Moshi where you'll have dinner and spend your final night before heading home.

Moshi to Kilimanjaro Airport
Following breakfast at your Moshi hotel, you're driven back to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight out. The trek is behind you and you'll have plenty of stories to tell.
