We traveled with Active Adventures to Peru to hike the Inca Trail. The local guides were amazing. The itinerary was well thought out and gave us great cultural experience. The food was great. However, their customer service was subpar. I have traveled with several other tour companies over the years, and they have always been helpful in giving us tips on pre and post trip logistics. When we booked the trip they were not all that helpful in answering questions we had to get more clarity on details we needed to schedule the rest of our trip. We learned on the trip that they gave other guests different information (that was more accurate). They also changed the overall itinerary and did not tell us that until the trip started. The changes were fine but it required us to change our post trip flights and it would have been better to know that before the trip. Finally, the hotel rooms for the first two nights in Cusco were subpar for what I would expect for what we paid for the trip.

We had an amazing trip trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu and then Flying to Puerto Maldonado to explore the Amazon Rain forest. We were incredibly well cared for by our Active Adventures trip guide, Zack. The 4 day trek to Machu Pichu was guided by Wilson. He made sure that each of us was able to complete the trip, by encouraging us and teaching us about the spiritual nature of the area. He watched our pace carefully and made sure that each of us felt supported. Our group of 4 close friends will be forever grateful for the experiences that we had on this trip.

Eric Farfan was an amazing guide. He was very knowledgeable, patient, kind, and had so much respect for my fear of heights. Which I did overcome while hiking the Inca Trail.

    1) is the roundtrip flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado included? 2) Reviews mention the Jaguar - what is this? is this part of the trip? 3) I am unsure which trail to do Inca or Lares. What do I do? 4) Is Inca crowded in November? 5) I am solo traveler. Is that ok?

      1. Yes, the internal flight is included in the tour cost. 2. The Jaguar was the nickname we had for this tour up until 2021 when we decided to change the name of the tour. Many of our guests refer to this tour as the Jaguar in their reviews. Although the name of the tour has changed the itinerary hasn't, meaning that the experiences and places we travel are still the same. 3. Both the Lares Trail and the Inca Trail are popular trekking routes in Peru that lead to the iconic Machu Picchu. However, they offer distinct experiences in terms of scenery, culture, difficulty, and accessibility. In summary, the Lares Trail offers a more off-the-beaten-path experience with a focus on local culture, while the Inca Trail combines history, archaeological sites, and stunning views as you follow in the footsteps of the ancient Incas. The choice between the two trails depends on your preferences for scenery, cultural interaction, difficulty level, and availability of permits. 4. November is generally considered the shoulder season for trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. While it's not as busy as the peak tourist months of May to August, it can still have a moderate number of trekkers. Overall, trekking the Inca Trail in November can offer a more tranquil experience compared to the peak months. If you prefer to avoid larger crowds while still enjoying the trail and its historical and scenic highlights, November could be a good time to consider. 5. Being a solo traveller is 100% ok! For solo travelers, we'll pair you with another person of the same gender to share rooms and if there's no one suitable to share with, there's no forced single supplement. However, if you specifically request your own rooms, you can opt to pay the single supplement.
