In general a really good trip! Enough packed in without feeling too rushed! Good facilities and all the canp sites were of a good quality! The tour leader did a pretty good job, she had the answers to all questions which we asked and had a fun side to her also (Ellen). The only issues which I had are as following; The food wasn't particularly good. For the price paid for the trip more meals should be covered or some money should have been put aside to go towards the food kitty. We paid a total of $105 which seems a bit steep especially for the food which we got. I understand that inflation has likely caused this but I then expect to be compensated for it. Secondly I would have liked more effort from our tour leader to get us all involved in games around the campfire or when we have spare time. I understand this is partly down to us but if it came from the leader (especially at the start of the trip) it would have made a more enjoyable trip! Then finally, just a suggestion with this particular trip is that for the first night staying in Joshua Tree National Park. The temperature outside was around 30°c all night which prevented us all from getting a proper sleep. This made everyone uneasy for the rest of the trip. I suggest a change in itinerary and have us stay somewhere indoors. But overall a very enjoyable trip and will certainly be looking to book with you again!

I was wondering if the Real LA to San Francisco by Intrepid tour is able to cater to those with a vegan diet?

We welcome all travellers and do our utmost to accommodate dietary requirements wherever possible. On this trip, you will be passing through cities and have plenty of opportunities to source your own meals, so I feel confident you will be able to find some vegan options. On the camping sections of this trip, there is an optional kitty, where travellers are encouraged to contribute to a central fund which is used to buy groceries which then supply meals to the entire group. On camping nights, food is usually cooked together on a stove, or barbecued over the camp fire. This usually comprises of salads, grilled meats and cooked pasta, rice and vegetables. Breakfast is usually milk, coffee, tea, cereals, bread, jam, butter etc. You may wish to opt out of the kitty, and instead purchase and prepare food that is suitable to your individual needs on these nights. We will always have some food that is suitable to your dietary requirements, sometimes it may just mean missing out on certain elements of the meal. We do also advise bringing along some snacks of your own, just in case! But, we will definitely be able to accommodate you!

I am 19 years old and am hoping to go on a trip like this to meet others around a similar age to me. On the description it shows the age range as being from 18-29, however please would you be able to tell me whether you have a lot of younger travellers booking this trip?

Currently there are two solo female travellers, one 29 years old and the other 23. Hopefully this gives you some clarification on the kind of passengers that we have going so far!

I'm slightly worried that I could miss out on events due to the legal age to be drinking alcohol in the USA being 21. Will all of the organised activities be inclusive even if you are not of legal age to drink? Is all of the camping equipment included? Including things such as sleeping bags and cooking equipment?

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten February 2022

This itinerary is focused on the National Parks and enjoying the outdoors. Most of the activities are hiking and exploring focused. Obviously the few days in Las Vegas my include a bit of drinking for those who are of age but it is not the focus of the itinerary by any means. Yes, We provide a complete set of camping and cooking equipment. This includes roomy easy-to-pitch tents, which are shared by only two people and are equipped with thin foam rubber mattresses and vinyl floors.

Is there an update on anyone else booking onto this trip? Do you also need a minimum amount of people booked to be able to confirm that this trip is going ahead?

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten March 2022

There has to be a minimum of 1 traveler booked on this departure in order for it to run. Our upcoming May 26th departure date has 7 travelers confirmed and 1 person holding space so far. The youngest person in the group is 22 and the oldest is 29. All our May departures are being evaluated right now. I expect that this tour will run, but it still has to pass all the necessary safety protocols.
