Itinerary
- Day 1
Nairobi to Mount Kenya
Your guide picks you up early from your Nairobi accommodation and drives through Kikuyu countryside toward Mount Kenya, crossing the equator along the way. Stop for lunch in Nanyuki Town, then head to Sirimon Park Gate where your hike begins. From there you'll walk through bamboo forest and woodland, watching for buffaloes and elephants as you make your way to Old Moses Camp. The trail takes you through varied terrain, and you'll end the day at around 2,200 meters elevation.

Mount Kenya
After breakfast, you'll start hiking along Mackinders Valley toward Shipton Camp at 4,236 meters. The route crosses hills, valleys, and moorland areas where you can spot mountain rock hyrax and see unique high-altitude plants like giant groundsels and lobelias scattered across the landscape. Mount Kenya's main peaks rise above you throughout the hike. You'll reach the camp by evening and stay overnight at Shipton's hut.

Landmarks Mackinders Valley Shipton Camp - Day 3
Mount Kenya Summit
This is summit day, so you start hiking at 3:00 a.m. from Shipton Camp. The path climbs steep scree slopes and rocky terrain up to Point Lenana at 4,985 meters, the hiker's summit. You'll reach the top in time to catch the sunrise, which is really the main event here. On clear mornings you can see Mount Kilimanjaro about 340 kilometers south. After spending time at the summit, you'll head back down to Shipton Camp for brunch, then continue descending to Old Moses Camp where you'll sleep.

Landmarks Point Lenana Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 4
Mount Kenya to Nairobi
You'll have breakfast, then start the gradual descent through rainforest back toward Sirimon Park Gate. The hike down takes most of the day as you move through different vegetation zones. Once you reach the gate, your driver takes you back through Nanyuki and on to Nairobi, finishing your Mount Kenya trek by late afternoon or evening.
