Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll arrive at Paro International Airport and meet your tour guide for the drive to Thimphu. Along the route, stop at Chuzom to see where the Thimphu and Paro rivers meet, then visit Tschogang Lhakhang. After settling into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to walk around Thimphu's Main Street and check out the market area. Browse the Crafts Bazaar for hand-woven textiles, paintings, and traditional carvings.

- Day 2
Thimphu
Start the day with a sightseeing tour through Thimphu valley. You'll see the National Library with its Buddhist manuscripts, the Institute for Zorig Chusum where traditional painting is taught, and the Textile Museum. Simply Bhutan living museum is also on the itinerary. After lunch, drive to Pangri Zampa monastery, then head to Buddha Point for views across Thimphu, the Memorial Chorten with its worshippers, and Trashichhoedzong. Evening is free to walk through the city center.

Thimphu to Gangtey
After breakfast, drive to Punakha crossing the Dochula pass at 3,080m/10,105 ft. You'll see views of the eastern Himalayan peaks and the Druk Wangyel Stupas on the way. The route takes you through bamboo and oak forests along the Dang Chhu river into Gangtey and Phobjikha valley. Check in at your hotel, then take an evening stroll around Gangtey Village.

Gangtey to Bumthang
Drive to Bumthang crossing the Pele-la pass at 3,300m/10,827 ft via Trongsa. The landscape shifts from mountain forest to high altitude dwarf bamboo. You'll stop at Chendbji Chorten, which mirrors Kathmandu's Swayambhunath Stupa, then have lunch in Trongsa. Visit Trongsa Dzong built in 1648 and Ta Dzong from 1652, a five-story stone structure now functioning as a museum. Cross Yutong-La pass at 3,400m/11,155 ft to reach the Bumthang valley.

Bumthang
Tour the Bumthang valley, which contains four separate valleys: Chumey, Choekhor, Tang, and URA. See Kurje Lhakhang with its body imprint left by Saint Padmasambhava, Jambey Lhakhang from the 7th century, Tamshing Lhakhang with ancient wall paintings, and Jakar Dzong. Walk through the village and stop at local handicrafts shops. In the afternoon, hike about 3 km to Lhodrak Kharchhu Monastery near Chamkhar town, founded in 1984 to preserve Tibetan culture.

Bumthang to Punakha
Check out after breakfast and drive to Punakha, Bhutan's old capital. Once you arrive, check into your hotel and settle in for the evening.

- Day 7
Punakha
Visit Punakha Dzong, a large structure built where two rivers meet that served as the capital until 1955 and remains the winter residence for the monk body. Then drive to Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple, for a 1.5 hour walk each way through paddy fields and the village of Pana. The walk offers real glimpses into how the local community lives and works daily.

Punakha to Paro
Transfer to Paro with a stop at Simtokha Dzong to visit its sacred shrines. After checking in at your Paro hotel, head to Ta Dzong, originally a watchtower now housing the National Museum with antique Thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons, armor, and household objects. Then visit Rinpung Dzong with its history, wooden galleries, inner courtyard, and wall paintings showing Buddhist stories.

- Day 9
Paro
Start early for the hike to Taktsang Monastery, one of Bhutan's holiest sites perched 900m above the Paro valley on a cliff. The monastery gets its name 'Tiger's Nest' from Guru Rinpoche, who arrived on a tigress to meditate here. The walk takes about 5 hours round trip. On the way back, you can stop at Drukgyel Dzong, a fortress being restored as a heritage site where Bhutanese fought Tibetan invaders, with views of sacred Chomolhari mountain. In the evening, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th century temple built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo as part of 108 temples marking Buddhism's introduction to Bhutan.
