Itinerary
- Day 1
Phnom Penh
You'll land at Phnom Penh Airport this morning and head to your hotel for check-in. From there, start getting to know the capital by visiting Wat Phnom, where you can see the hilltop temple that gave the city its name. Next, walk through the National Museum to see its collection of Khmer sculptures and artifacts. The Royal Palace comes next on your list, and you won't want to miss the Silver Pagoda inside its grounds. By evening, make your way down to the riverfront where the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers meet. It's a good spot to watch the light change over the water and grab dinner somewhere along the water's edge.

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
After breakfast, you'll transfer to Siem Reap either by car (around 6 hours) or take an optional flight if you want to save time. The drive itself takes you through rural Cambodia, so that's worth considering depending on your energy level. Once you arrive and settle in, you'll have dinner with a Khmer classical dance performance. The dancers wear traditional costumes and tell stories through movement that go back centuries, so it's a good way to start understanding the culture here.

Siem Reap
Get an early start today because you're covering a lot of ground at Angkor Thom. You'll see the South Gate first, then walk through the Terrace of the Elephants where stone carvings line the pathway. The Baphuon temple comes next, followed by Phimeanakas, a pyramid-shaped structure in the center of the complex. Ta Prohm is probably the most famous spot because of the massive tree roots that have grown over and through the stones. After lunch at a local restaurant around midday, head over to Angkor Wat temple in the afternoon. It's the largest religious structure here, so you'll need time to explore the galleries and courtyards. Finish the day at Pre Rup temple to watch the sunset from the upper level, which gives you views across the whole area.

You'll leave early with a private car and guide heading to Kampong Khleang, about 55 km east of Siem Reap. The stilted houses here rise 10 meters high or sit in water depending on the season, and this is the largest lake community around. The local economy revolves around fishing, and you'll see the flooded forest surrounding everything.
