Itinerary
- Day 1
Akagera National Park
After breakfast, you're heading into Akagera National Park for a game drive through Rwanda's only savannah landscape. This place is where you'll find the Big Five - lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, and zebras are all here, plus black rhinos that were brought back to the park not long ago. The terrain shifts between woodland, swamps, lakes, and open savannah, so you'll see different habitats throughout the day. Bird watching is solid too, with plenty of species to spot if you bring binoculars. Plan on spending most of the day in the vehicle with your guide, and the experience really depends on where the animals decide to show up.

Next is the National Museum of Butare, which gives context on the ancient Rwanda Kingdom and what this palace represented. From there you continue driving to Nyungwe itself - a massive mountain rainforest that's home to chimpanzees and several monkey species. Kigali
This morning after eating, you're going into Nyungwe Forest with guides who know their stuff about plants, birds, and animals. You'll be tracking colobus monkeys through the forest on foot, and the guides can explain what you're seeing as you move through different parts of the ecosystem. It's not a casual walk - you're actively searching for wildlife rather than just passing through. By early afternoon you'll head back to grab lunch at the guest house. After eating, it's a drive back to Kigali, so you'll be traveling in the late afternoon.
