Customer Reviews

  • Everest Base Camp Gokyo Cho-la pass Trek reviewer 1
    · November 11th, 2022
I booked the Everest Three Passes trek with Exciting Nepal and had a positive experience overall, with a few negatives as well. If you're thinking of doing this trek, I highly recommend it! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience full of jaw-dropping views and unforgettable memories. I would say, however, that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite my trekking company, not because of it. Pros: - The manager, Subash, was very easy to communicate with leading up to the trek date. - After I got a bad cold and was having trouble with the altitude towards the end of my trek, my guide Shambhu successfully and helpfully restructured the last few days of hiking to get me to lower altitude one day earlier. - When I proactively asked in an easily understandable way, Shambhu offered interesting information about the landscapes and culture. - My porter, Ram, was amazing and kind. - The provided heavy jacket and sleeping bag were absolutely essential. - Exciting Nepal kept the trek going even though I (as a solo traveler) was the only person who signed up. Cons: - On most days we did not start our hike until 20-30 minutes after our scheduled departure time because my guide Shambhu was delayed. Also in several cases he was very late to breakfast so I had to order and write up my meal on his behalf. - Subash assured me before the trek that my dietary restrictions would be respected and taken care of, but it quickly became clear that my guide had no understanding of these restrictions. Thankfully I was able to figure things out on my own. - The return to Kathmandu from the Everest region features zero organization and preparation. After flying back into Kathmandu valley at Ramechhap, we waited for 30 minutes while all of the other trekkers left on tour buses and we eventually we took a public van (ludicrously jam-packed with 16 people, twice as many people as there should have been) back to Kathmandu. The trip took over 5 hours and was exceedingly uncomfortable, a far cry from the 3.5 hour trip to Ramechhap in a private car at the beginning of the trek. - Oftentimes I would end up being alone for portions of the hike because my guide would go at his own pace. He would often be far behind me (not keeping up) or far in front of me (not stopping when I stopped to take photos), and would sometimes be so far away that I couldn't see him and had to fend for myself. Tip: when you get to a teahouse for the night, go on a walk around the area! Some of my favorite experiences on the trek came when I went beyond the itinerary and explored side paths by myself. Don't listen if your guide says "there's nothing interesting to see on that path" - in my experience that was incorrect every time!
