Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Bangui to Dzanga Sangha

    You'll arrive at Bangui M'Poko International Airport and meet your transfer who'll take you to catch a charter flight heading to Dzanga Sangha. Once at Sangha Lodge and checked in, if the timing works out, there's a chance to see the black-bellied pangolin that lives here in the wild. Later in the afternoon, you'll take a short cruise on the Sangha River to catch the sunset.

  2. Day 2

    Dzanga Sangha

    After breakfast at the lodge, you're heading out for a full day of gorilla tracking at Bai Hokou. Your local guide will help you search for western lowland gorillas while explaining conservation work and the challenges these animals face. You'll return to the lodge by evening for dinner and rest.

  3. Day 3

    Dzanga Sangha

    Following breakfast, you'll head to Dzanga Bai, which is a large forest clearing where forest elephants congregate to drink from mineral-rich waters. You'll watch how different elephant groups interact with each other, and keep an eye out for other forest animals like bongo, giant forest hog, red river hog, sitatunga, and forest buffalo that tend to be shy.

  4. Day 4

    Dzanga Sangha

    After breakfast, you'll join Ba'aka net hunters as they go about their daily work in the forest. They'll show you their hunting techniques and point out medicinal plants they use, while demonstrating how they move through the dense forest with real confidence and skill.

  5. Day 5

    Dzanga Sangha

    Following breakfast, you'll board a boat and travel upriver through untouched rainforest to reach spectacular waterfalls. There's a hike to the top of the falls for views across the canopy and chances to spot grey-necked rock fowl. The boat brings you back in the late afternoon, and after dinner, there's an optional night walk near the lodge to look for nocturnal animals.

  6. Day 6

    Dzanga Sangha

    You'll spend the day walking through Dzanga Sangha National Park around various forest clearings, looking for buffalos, elephants, and monkey species. There's a picnic lunch in the park during the day, and you'll also get to see a habituated group of agile mangabeys, over 150 of them, that scientists have been studying for years.

    Dzanga Sangha

    This is a free day where you can choose how to spend your time. You could relax around the lodge, go on forest hikes in the area, or repeat some earlier activities like gorilla tracking or visiting Dzanga Bai if you want another chance at those experiences.

  8. Day 8

    Dzanga Sangha to Bangui

    You'll have breakfast at the lodge one final time before transferring to your chartered flight back to Bangui. Once you arrive, a transfer will take you to Bangui M'Poko International Airport so you can head out on your next flight.
