Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Barcelona to Ripoll to Olot

After arriving by train from Barcelona to Ripoll, you'll get a tour briefing and have your bike set up. Then it's time to cycle over the Coll de Santigosa mountain pass heading to Olot, which comes to about 40km through the Pyrenees. This first day gets you acclimated to the route and terrain.

    Landmarks
    Coll de Santigosa
  2. Day 2

    Olot to Girona

You'll cycle along the Carrilet, a converted railway line running through La Garrotxa's volcanic region. The route takes you from Olot to Girona, covering around 60km. Riding on an old rail bed means mostly flat terrain and some nice scenery through the landscape.

  3. Day 3

    Girona to Mediterranean Coast

This leg uses the Carrilet again, heading from Girona down toward the Mediterranean Sea. You'll travel through plains and pine forests as you follow the old railway line for approximately 40km. By the end of the day, you're getting close to the coast.

    Included Activities

    • Cycle the Carrilet from Girona to Mediterranean coast
  4. Day 4

    Coastal Route to Llafranc

The ride takes you along a coastal route with fields and forests of pine and cork trees on your way to Llafranc. You'll cover around 30km, and the landscape shifts as you get closer to the water. This is a shorter day that lets you settle into the coastal area.

    Included Activities

    • Cycle along coastal route to Llafranc
  5. Day 5

Exploring Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell, and Tamariu

You'll spend the day cycling through the bays of Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell, and Tamariu on a route that's about 30km. This day is more about taking time to see the different bays and their character rather than covering a lot of distance. Great opportunities to stop and look around.

We consider ourselves to be “veterans” of self guided cycling tours - we have now done 18 self guided tours across 4 countries, over 5 years. We came back to Creative Catalonia on the back of the most wonderful experience with them the year before, this time sharing our holiday with friends. We were not disappointed and our experience confirmed that this is indeed one of the best parts of the world for cycling, and that Lucy and Daniel are outstanding hosts. We had plenty of contact before we arrived to ensure that all was in order. Lucy met us for the pre-tour briefing - informative, super helpful and prepared to do anything to make sure we had a good time. We met again mid-tour, once again to answer any questions we had, more tips for the rides in front of us, assistance with transit arrangements - and Creative Catalonia t-shirts! Finally the end of the trip a phone call once again to check that everything had gone well and wanting to see if there was anything else she could do for us. Creative Catalonia is an outstanding, customer focussed business. You can’t help but feel special when these guys are looking after you. It’s also great value - hotel quality including breakfasts, trip notes, road riding all 5 stars and very reasonably priced. Totally, thoroughly recommended. We will be back!

My husband and I have done two tours with Creative Catalonia - which speaks volumes about how impressed we were with Creative Catalonia! Two years ago we did a 10 day best of Catalonia bike/hike tour. We loved this tour - the bikes were excellent, the route was interesting, the countryside was beautiful and the hotels were charming. We were so impressed with Creative Catalonia that we talked our friends into returning last year with us to again bike in Catalonia with Creative Catalonia - which was again an awesome experience! Daniel is a biker himself and clearly understands what makes a bike trip enjoyable!

Creative Catalonia - Thumbs up! We just finished a fantastic week of self guided cycling with Creative Catalonia . A great mix of medieval villages to get lost in, classic sheltered costa brava coves for swimming in and really delightful hotels . The 30-40 k/ day were just right for us , enough time for leisurely sleep in/breakfast, interesting and varied days ride through forest trails, small quiet B roads, and dedicated bike tracks ( occasionally strenuous but mostly pleasantly cruisey), and arrive in time for a siesta or explore before checking out a veritable cornucopia of delicious restaurants/ bars . Daniel and Lucy were great hosts from the initial email enquiries and on throughout the tour and gave as much support as needed when riding. The bikes are great. New and comfortable and can handle loose gravel , steep hills and road with ease. The maps and guides were detailed and helpful and the tech ( GPS locators and maps and Garmins) worked seamlessly so we never got lost ( slightly misplaced momentarily maybe but not lost!)l Thanks Lucy and Daniel - we will hopefully be back for more! cheers David and Fiona( Sydney)
