  1. Day 1

    Kunming

    Your private guide and driver pick you up at Kunming Airport and take you to your hotel downtown. Once you've settled in, head out to the Golden Temple on Mingfeng Hill, which is a notable Taoist temple with good views of the city. After that, spend some time walking around Green Lake Park, where locals come to relax and there are nice walking paths around the water.

  2. Day 2

    Kunming to Dali

    Start early at the Zhuanxin Farmers' Market, Kunming's largest marketplace, where you can see local produce and vendors. From there, travel to the Stone Forest, which features dramatic karst rock formations rising from the ground. Grab lunch in the area, then your driver takes you to the railway station to board a high-speed train to Dali, which takes about 2 hours. When you arrive, your Dali guide meets you and brings you to your hotel in the ancient city.

  3. Day 3

    Dali

    Walk through Dali Ancient City to see the clear streams running through town and people wearing traditional ethnic clothing. Next, visit the Three Pagodas Temple, which sits above Erhai Lake and gives you views of the water below. After that, your guide takes you on a walk along the ecological corridor of Erhai Lake. By evening, head back to your hotel.

    Dali to Lijiang

    This morning you drive to Lijiang, which takes about 3 to 4 hours by car. On the way, stop to see traditional Bai minority houses in Xizhou. Then head to Zhoucheng to watch local artisans do hand-made Tie Dyeing work in a traditional home, which shows techniques passed down through generations. Once you arrive in Lijiang, check into your hotel in the old town and rest briefly. Later, your guide takes you to explore Square Street in Lijiang Old Town.

    Lijiang

    Start at Baisha Village, the ancient capital of the Naxi minority, where you visit a local family and see traditional Baisha murals on their walls. From there, travel to Yuhu village at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Next, you head to Black Dragon Pool Park, a large scenic area with ancient monuments scattered throughout. Finish the day at the Dongba Culture Museum, which shows the unique Dongba culture that the Naxi people have kept alive for centuries.

Your Lijiang guide says goodbye, and the driver continues to Tiger Leaping Gorge. Your Shangri-La guide meets you there and completes the gorge visit with you. After that, your guide takes you to check in at your hotel in Shangri-La.
