- OMOwen· February 14th, 2025The way this tour was described was a lot different from what we experienced. The advertising led us to believe we would have 3 days on the Mekong River with side trips to places of interest and spending 2 nights at hotels in Chau Doc and Can Tho. On arrival at the boat in Phnom Penh we were surprised that it was just a small speedboat, not terribly comfortable or clean. However it was great to be on the river. We stopped twice to exit Cambodia, and to enter Vietnam. At Chau Doc there was nobody to meet us, nor had we been told where we were staying, promised accommodation vouchers had never arrived and details were scant. After a long delay and massive help from a local hotel we were collected and driven to a new hotel, 6km from the river. The hotel was nice but the staff had very little English or training so the dinner was a shambles with only the four of us in the enormous dining room. The next morning we were picked up by Sergeant Tom in a van with no functioning seat belts and a driver who was frightening. Tom was a nice man but a totally inadequate tour guide. We were looking forward to the promised trip to a Muslim village to see women weaving headscarves - this never happened, nor did our repeated questions as to why not get answered. We had a trip to a forest which included a boat ride through a wetland, but the rest of the very long day in the car was only broken by a dreadful buffet lunch at a roadside cafe that had all but sold out of food - we had to scrape rice from the bottom of the pan. The night at the Victoria Resort in Can Tho was superb - which only served to underscore how dreadful everything else had been. The following morning after an interesting visit by boat to the floating market we were back in the car, another long day of travel with an unexplained stop at a factory making fabric from bamboo. Tom barely spoke to us throughout the two days, no history or description of what we were seeing or anything about the locals way of life. We felt we would have been much better off, both in finance and enjoyment flying from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City. I would definitely not recommend this trip to others.Show moreTrip date: February 2025
- GGGarth· April 14th, 2024This is not as advertised. We booked a 3 day Mekong river tour from Phnom Penh to HCMC. In total we spent only 1 hour on the Mekong. This is how our itinerary actually went. Day 1 = take the "speed boat" to Chau Doc. The boat travels at about 30km/hr, and this boat transports everyone crossing the border. There is no tour guide for this day. We luckily upgraded our hotels and found that the boat docked right at our first hotel. We were expecting to be met by our tour guide but were met by hotel staff instead. We checked ourselves in and then had to WhatsApp the tour company to find out what time we would be meeting our tour guide the next day. Day 2 = The itinerary states that we would depart for the Mekong river with a traditional Sampan to visit a floating market of Long Xuyen. This did not happen. Instead our guide briefly showed us through a market in the city near our hotel and then took us to a local Muslim house where they demonstrated traditional weaving and then tried to sell us various items (even the guide suggested most of these items were bought from a factory). Then we were driven to Cajuput Tra Su forest, which is a man-made sanctuary and tourist park. Lunch was included here at the park but the guide told us drinks were not included, and we had to buy our own water. We were then driven to our hotel in Can Tho. We contacted the tour company asking why the itinerary had changed, and they said that the floating market has been closed for a long time - although its still advertised on their website. So no Mekong activities on this day either. Day 3 = A 1 hour return boat trip to the floating markets Cai Rang, and then back on land into a car and driven back to HCMC via a Pagoda. Other than being disappointed in having paid a good amount of money to see something we did not get to see, the driving was not pleasant. The driver was constantly on and off the accelerator, even on the highway, and we started to feel seasick from it. He also drove at approximately 50km/hr almost everywhere so the drive to Can Tho took over an hour longer than it was meant to. When we arrived at HCMC the guide asked us to give the driver some lucky money which we did not want to do, and this made the guide angry and he paid the driver instead. During the tour the guide seemed disinterested and spent most of his time either talking with the driver in Vietnamese, or telling us how much money he makes and how many businesses he has had. If we were to do this again, we would not do this tour but fly from Phnom Penh to HCMC and do a day trip to the Mekong Delta.Show moreTrip date: April 2024
- CFCassandra· August 15th, 2023This tour is a waste of money & I wouldn't recommend it whatsoever. Complete waste of money & lack of support from Indochina during our stay. The accommodation listed on our itinerary was changed at the last minute and we were dumped at a 2-star hotel on the side of the road (5-star resort listed in itinerary) without any contact from the company prior and without anyone to contact for support. My dietary requirements were ignored the whole trip so I solely ate steamed rice and some of the activities listed were completely dismissed and/or swapped for an hour-long cycling trip without any map or tour guide. I've liaised with this company for 4 weeks about a refund for this tour without cooperation, hence this review. Stay away from this trip, it's completely tainted my experience of Vietnam.Show moreTrip date: June 2023
