Walking through the streets gives you a good feel for the place, and if museums interest you, there are several to check out. San Bernardo Hill offers views over the city if you're up for a climb. If you want to experience local culture, catch some traditional music at a peña venue later in the evening.

    Purmamarca - Salinas Grandes

After breakfast, someone will pick you up at 7:30am for a full day trip. You'll travel along the Rio Grande and head up through the Andes foothills, stopping regularly for photos as you pass through quiet villages. Once you reach Purmamarca, you'll see the Hill of Seven Colors and have time to browse the handicrafts market. The drive continues through the Humahuaca gorge and climbs up the Cuesta de Lipan until you reach 4,150 metres altitude at the Salinas Grandes salt flats. There's free time to walk around the salt flats, then lunch at a local restaurant, more time for souvenirs at market stalls, and the return drive to your accommodation.
