What people love about touring Machu Picchu solo
- Cachicata Quarry Trail Trek to Machu Picchu 4 days 3 nights
This was a great trek from start to finish. My partner and I were in a group of just the two of us lead by our awesome guide Lizandro (who spoke great English), two horseman, and a chef and assistant chef who are all local to the area. The two horsemen and chefs always made it to our next campsite well before us and had a tent and table already set up for our next meal. The meals were amazing and we were never hungry- there was ample hot food provided including multiple courses that differed every day. Sleeping arrangements were great- they always made sure we were warm and even gave us a heat bottle to heat up the inside of our sleeping bags every night! For our last meal we were invited to visit the horsemen’s family home, meet their family, and enjoy a traditional meal cooked in hot stones. We mentioned we were heading to the airport the day after the tour ended and they even provided us a free taxi to the airport! We highly recommend trexperience to any traveller. You will not be disappointed!!
- Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu 3 Days 2 nights
Tour guide was nice , provided all necessary information regarding our trekking. Regarding tour guidance in Machu Picchu, we suggest tour guides improve more knowledge in more specific details in order trip would be more valuable and interesting.
- Machu Picchu: Classic Inca Trail 4 days with Panoramic Train
Incredible - from start to finish, this was amazing. Adolfo and Yoner, our tour guides, did everything they could to make this a fantastic experience, and Adolfo's Quechua heritage added real depth and knowledge to the trek. And the food... How the chef, Rolando, managed to make so much amazing food (honestly - every meal three courses of better quality than most of the restaurants we ate in pre/post trek) with just the equipment carried by the porters is unbelievable. They even made and decorated a cake for our penultimate day as three of us had big birthdays that month! And as for the Inca Trail itself - magical. If you're interested, I suggest just doing it without researching the route too much, so you don't anticipate the Inca settlements etc that you'll come across along the way, and you'll feel the full impact of the awe inspired by these amazing places - each day better than the last. There are some serious heights and precipitous drops to tackle, but if you're like me and go wobbly at the knees from such things, the route builds you up slowly so by the 4th day you're able to deal with them - and even Huayna Picchu at the end (very much recommended)! All in all, 100% recommended, especially with this team. Just make sure you're fully acclimatised to the altitude before starting this amazing experience.
What our customers ask about Machu Picchu Tours for Solo Travelers
What's the best time of year for solo travelers to visit Machu Picchu Mountain?
The busiest months are May through September with June and July drawing the largest crowds thanks to clear dry weather. For a more peaceful experience April and October offer good weather with fewer visitors. The trails are less crowded making it easier to take in the surroundings at your own pace. A recent visitor noted: "I went in September when the weather was stable and our group was smaller making it easier to bond with fellow travelers."
How social are the guided group tours to Machu Picchu Mountain for solo travelers?
The tours naturally encourage connections since solo travelers make up over 65% of participants. Groups stay small with 8-12 people sharing experiences like nights under the stars at Wayllabamba campsite and meals cooked by local chefs. One traveler shared: "Traveling alone to South America I was nervous but they took great care of me...the guides were extremely knowledgeable caring and passionate about their culture and people."
What accommodation options are available for solo travelers on Machu Picchu Mountain tours?
Lodging varies between 3-star hotels in Cusco like the Ayni Cusco Hotel and camping during treks. The camping setup typically pairs two solo travelers in four-person tents though single tents are available for an extra 220 USD. A recent guest noted: "The tents were always dry and since we were prepared for the weather we had the rain gear needed to be comfortable."
How much interaction is there with local communities as a solo traveler?
Local encounters happen naturally throughout the journey especially in Sacred Valley villages. One traveler reported: "Even as a solo traveler I had meaningful connections with the Willoq community and local guides. The textile demonstrations and home-cooked meals were highlights for cultural exchange."
