What people love about touring Balkans solo
- Small Group Tour; Belgrade to Tirana 5 Balkan Countries in 8 Days
I really enjoyed this tour. The itinerary was perfect and our guide was the best. Would 100% recommend Choose Balkans
- Balkan Revealed - 4 countries in 10 days - SMALL GROUP
Our recent private tour of the Balkans, covering Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, was an unforgettable journey, thanks to the exceptional service and expertise of our tour guide, Uros. Uros’ deep knowledge of the region's history, culture, and hidden gems brought each destination to life in ways we could never have imagined. A special mention must go to Ivana from Victor Tours, who coordinated the entire itinerary flawlessly. Despite us being based in Australia, the communication was seamless, and her meticulous planning ensured that every aspect of our trip was perfect. Ivana’s responsiveness and attention to detail made the entire process stress-free and enjoyable. From the vibrant streets of Sofia and the rich history of Bucharest to the charming landscapes of Belgrade and the poignant beauty of Sarajevo, Uros ensured that every moment was filled with discovery and wonder. His politeness and professionalism were unparalleled, always attentive to our needs and ready to go above and beyond to make our trip seamless and enjoyable. Uros’ ability to connect with everyone on the tour made us feel like we were traveling with a friend rather than a guide. He was always willing to share fascinating stories, recommend the best local spots, and accommodate any special requests we had. This personal touch made our experience truly special and left us with lasting memories. If I had to criticise one aspect of the tour, it would be the hotels. A couple of the hotels, although rated up to four stars, did not fully meet the standards we are accustomed to. However, this is reflective of the regional differences in hotel ratings. To enhance your experience, I would recommend requesting accommodations in very central locations, close to all the shops, restaurants and the centre of town. In summary, our Balkans tour was extraordinary, thanks to Uros’ exceptional guidance and Ivana’s impeccable coordination. If you’re looking for a memorable and enriching travel experience, we highly recommend embarking on a journey with Victor Tours. They will undoubtedly make your trip as amazing as ours was. What our customers ask about Balkans Tours for Solo Travelers
How social are Balkans group tours for solo travelers?
Balkans tours create natural opportunities to form connections with fellow travelers. The Dubrovnik to Santorini tour lets you share daily experiences like wine tasting in Kosovo's Rahovec Valley exploring local bazaars and enjoying group meals at authentic spots such as Question Mark tavern in Belgrade. A TourRadar traveler noted "We had an EXCELLENT tour guide who helped bring the group together and the small group size made it easy to bond with others." The 3-4 star accommodations including places like Hotel Royal Inn in Belgrade provide comfortable common spaces for socializing with other travelers.
How much free time will I have to explore independently as a solo traveler?
Tours provide a mix of structured activities and independent time. You can expect 2-3 hours of free time each day especially in major cities like Zagreb Sarajevo and Dubrovnik. A Choose Balkans tour reviewer shared: "The guide was great at suggesting local spots to explore during free time and I felt comfortable wandering the charming streets of Kotor and Split on my own."
What's the best time of year for solo travel in the Balkans?
While July through September marks peak season the shoulder months of May-June and September-October offer pleasant temperatures with fewer tourists. Tour booking data shows September as a popular choice. Cities like Dubrovnik remain warm enough to enjoy beachfront locations like Hotel Lapad but with less crowding. A TourRadar traveler noted "Traveling in September when the weather was perfect and tourist crowds had thinned out."
What's the typical group size on Balkans tours for solo travelers?
Groups usually range from 8-16 travelers creating a balance between intimacy and social interaction. The Balkan Extended tour from Budapest to Split caps at 12 participants. A TourRadar traveler shared: "With just 10 of us in the group including 4 other solo travelers it was easy to get to know everyone and form real friendships." These smaller numbers allow stops at local venues like traditional Serbian kafanas or Macedonian wineries.
Do I need to pay a single supplement as a solo traveler?
Single supplements exist but can often be avoided. Intrepid Travel offers roommate matching on their Western Balkans tour which includes stays at properties like DoubleTree by Hilton in Bucharest. Supplements typically cost between USD 200-600 based on tour length and accommodation quality. One traveler noted "The single supplement was worth it for the privacy but sharing is a great way to meet people."
