What our customers ask about Alsace & Lorraine Tours & Trips
How can I best explore the Alsace region?
You've got lots of great options for discovering Alsace. Hop on a bike and pedal along the famous Wine Route where you'll get to taste wines at family vineyards or head into the Vosges Mountains for some really rewarding hiking through picture-perfect villages like Kaysersberg and Riquewihr. If you're looking for something more relaxed take a river cruise on the Marne-Rhine Canal it's a lovely way to see the countryside and historic towns like Saverne. One of our travelers Lorraine actually found that even when it rained during her summer trip on the Alsace Walking Tour she still had an amazing time thanks to the comfortable hotels and incredible local food.
What local foods should I try in Alsace and where can I find them?
The food here is this amazing mix of French and German influences you won't find anywhere else. You've got to try tarte flambée it's like this incredible thin-crust pizza topped with crème fraîche onions and bacon that goes perfectly with local wines. Then there's baeckeoffe a hearty slow-cooked stew and choucroute garnie which is sauerkraut loaded with different meats and sausages. The best places to try all this are the Winstubs these cozy wine bistros with their red-checked tablecloths and shared wooden tables create such a warm atmosphere. One of our travelers on the 7 Days All Inclusive Alsace Authentic Luxury Gourmet Tour loved an unexpected stop at Ingersheim Flea Market and really enjoyed the eaux de vie tasting at Bollenberg after hours.
Is Alsace worth visiting for wine lovers?
If you're into wine you're going to love Alsace! The Wine Route stretches for 170 kilometers through beautiful rolling hills and vineyards with so many chances to taste and tour cellars. You'll discover amazing white wines like Riesling Gewürztraminer Pinot Gris and Muscat. The wine villages are absolutely charming especially Riquewihr Eguisheim and Kaysersberg where you can visit local wineries join wine festivals and learn about the region's incredible wine heritage. Our Bicycling the Vineyards of Alsace tour is perfect for getting up close with small family wineries and trying their wines.
What unique cultural experiences can I find in Alsace?
There's so much more to Alsace than just food and wine. You can watch the traditional night watchman in Turckheim wearing his 16th-century costume as he makes his 10 pm rounds turning off streetlights. The wine festivals here are incredible and really bring the region to life. Make sure to visit the Écomusée d'Alsace it's this fascinating open-air museum with over 70 historic buildings showing traditional rural life. History buffs will love the Humanist Library in Sélestat with its collection of rare books and manuscripts dating all the way back to the 7th century.
