The ship's names honors Amalia Rebordao Rodrigues (1920-1999) - Portuguese fado singer and actress also known as "Rainha do Fado" ("Queen of Fado"), Until her dead (October 1999), Amalia had over 30 million records (produced by Valentim de Carvalho) sold worldwide. She remains Portugal's best-selling artist ever.

Dining aboard CroisiEurope ships is always a gourmet pleasure as the "cruise food" is taken very seriously. Passengers soon become friends with their waiter and quickly come to admire the choices by Serge Dubs, world-renowned sommelier. Dinner is served at set times in a single sitting. Breakfast is buffet style and served in the stylish restaurant restaurant with panoramic windows. No formal nights are held onboard and dress code is smart casual.
