    • Day 1

      Ulaanbaatar

Start in Mongolia's capital city. Plan to arrive early to avoid the heavy traffic from the airport. You can spend the day exploring Sukhbaatar Square and the National History Museum. Look for a hotel near Peace Avenue where you'll be within walking distance of good restaurants and shops.

    • Days 2-3

      Amarbayasgalant Monastery and Bulgan Province

Take a 6-hour drive north to Amarbayasgalant one of Mongolia's most important Buddhist monasteries set in a peaceful mountain valley. On Day 3 visit Uran Togoo an extinct volcano with incredible views. The steppes can get quite cold at night so pack plenty of warm layers.

    • Days 4-5

      Lake Khuvsgul

Travel to the "Blue Pearl" Mongolia's biggest freshwater lake. The journey from Bulgan takes about 7 hours on rough roads so consider bringing motion sickness pills. • Day 7

Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake & Khorgo Volcano
