- Days 1-2
Nairobi:
Start your adventure in Nairobi and take the first day to rest and adjust. On day 2 head to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust early morning to see the elephant orphans at their most playful. Book the 11 AM private viewing ahead of time for a more personal experience. Later visit the Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Center. One visitor mentioned "The hotels were great and really wanted to make clients happy." Stay in Karen to skip the busy downtown traffic.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy:
The 4-hour drive north takes you to Ol Pejeta, which hosts East Africa's biggest black rhino population. You'll have good chances to spot the Big 5, especially rhinos. Game drives start at 6:30 AM when wildlife is most active. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimp Sanctuary between drives. Bring warm clothes since mornings can be cool at 50°F even near the equator.

Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha offers unique wildlife experiences. Take a boat to Crescent Island where you can walk safely among wild animals. Afternoon boat trips are perfect for spotting hippos but bring warm clothes as the lake gets cold. Visit Lake Nakuru National Park to see flamingos and rhinos. Good binoculars will help you spot the incredible variety of birds.

Masai Mara
Spend three full days in Kenya's most famous reserve. Time your visit between July and October to see the Great Migration. Consider a sunrise balloon ride over the plains for about $450. Book this well ahead as spots fill up fast. The game drives can be rough so bring a cushion and dress in layers. While the Big Five are exciting to spot, take time to appreciate all the other amazing wildlife too.

Return to Nairobi
The 5-6 hour drive back to Nairobi takes you through the Great Rift Valley. Stop at lookout points for photos of the stunning valley. Leave early to avoid Nairobi traffic. You can fit in some shopping at Utamaduni Craft Centre before heading home.

Nairobi Arrival
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Schedule your flight for afternoon or evening to skip Nairobi's heavy morning traffic. The trip to city center hotels usually takes 45-60 minutes.
- Days 2-3
Amboseli National Park
Visit the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi before driving 4 hours to Amboseli. Watch the park's famous elephant herds during early morning or late afternoon when you can also see Kilimanjaro's peak clearly. Pack light clothes that wick moisture since Amboseli gets hot and dusty by midday. Game drives start at 6:30 AM when wildlife is most active.

Lake Naivasha
The drive from Amboseli to Lake Naivasha takes 5.5 hours through the Great Rift Valley's stunning landscape. Bring motion sickness pills if you need them. Plan lake activities for late afternoon when winds are calmer. Take a boat ride at dusk to see hippos at their most active.
- Day 5
Lake Nakuru
It's just an hour's drive from Lake Naivasha after your morning Crescent Island tour. Lake Nakuru is small but packed with wildlife. Ask your guide to time your visit with low tide for the best flamingo viewing on the eastern shore. The lake edges are alkaline so wear closed shoes.

Maasai Mara
The 4.5-hour drive to Maasai Mara offers beautiful valley views. You'll want three full days to explore this huge reserve. Look for predators during early morning and late afternoon drives. During migration season (July-October) get to the Mara River before 10 AM to see wildebeest crossings.

Return to Nairobi
Plan 5-6 hours for the drive back to Nairobi. Stop for photos and shopping at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. Most flights leave in the evening so you can fit in shopping at places like Utamaduni Craft Centre.

I had so much fun on this trip. I had the same driver-guide and Safari vehicle (Land Cruiser) for the entire trip. The tour driver-guide was Ben and he is very experienced, and he knows everything about the animals. He was able to drive to the best spots for animal viewing. He knows most of the other tour guides and connected with them via radio. So, if any tour guide in the park found rare animals, he would know right away and take us to the spot. On top of the big five, baby elephants and a cute baby leopard, we saw cheetahs feasting on a zebra, lions having sex and vultures fighting each other over another zebra. I guess we were very lucky. We went in July, so we also saw wildebeests crossing the river. Thanks to our driver-guide, we had a fantastic trip. I wish the Land Cruiser had AC, but since the weather is nice in July, we were comfortable most of the time. The hotels were very nice and clean, and most of them have big rooms. But most important, there are animals right at the some of the hotels. I tried to control myself not to pet the baby zebras at the hotel. The food for the trip were from the hotels and they are all buffets. The food quality is quite good, but we still didn’t dare to eat the salad and stuck with cooked vegetables, meats and of course, deserts. Bottled water are provided for the whole trip. Although the water looked and smelled very clean in the hotel, but for safety, we use bolted water to brush teeth. This trip was way above my expectations.
