10 Day Kenya Safari Itinerary, incl. Nairobi and Maasai Mara
A 10-day safari spans 5 major destinations across Kenya, including Nairobi's wildlife sanctuaries, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Maasai Mara Reserve. Features 9 nights' luxury accommodation and 15 game drives with expert guides.
- Days 1-2
Nairobi:
Start your adventure in Nairobi and take the first day to rest and adjust. On day 2 head to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust early morning to see the elephant orphans at their most playful. Book the 11 AM private viewing ahead of time for a more personal experience. Later visit the Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Center. One visitor mentioned "The hotels were great and really wanted to make clients happy." Stay in Karen to skip the busy downtown traffic.
- Days 3-4
Ol Pejeta Conservancy:
The 4-hour drive north takes you to Ol Pejeta, which hosts East Africa's biggest black rhino population. You'll have good chances to spot the Big 5, especially rhinos. Game drives start at 6:30 AM when wildlife is most active. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimp Sanctuary between drives. Bring warm clothes since mornings can be cool at 50°F even near the equator.
- Days 5-6
Lake Nakuru National Park:
- Days 7-9
Maasai Mara:
The 5-hour trip to the Mara includes some bumpy roads. Three full days gives you time to explore this vast savanna properly. Visit between July and October to catch the Great Migration. According to one guest: "Steve was an amazing guide who has a wealth of experience and knowledge." Stay inside the reserve to save time on daily travel.
- Day 10
Return to Nairobi:
10 Day Kenya Safari Itinerary, incl. Nairobi and Maasai Mara
A spectacular safari spans 8 destinations across Kenya. Features 10 game drives and stays at premium properties like Nairobi Serena Hotel and Sweetwaters Camp. Conservation centers, bush meals, and traditional Maasai performances await. Total costs around $6,700 per person.
- Days 1-2
Nairobi
Begin your safari adventure in Nairobi at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The orphaned elephants are most active in the morning. "Watching the elephant calves during feeding time was incredibly moving - arrive by 10:30 AM to get the best viewing spot." Next stop is the Giraffe Centre where you can feed Rothschild giraffes from a raised platform. Visit the Karen Blixen Museum in the afternoon. Plan your activities before 11 AM or after 2 PM to avoid heavy traffic.
- Days 3-4
Shaba National Reserve
Take a 5-hour drive north to Shaba. The sparse vegetation in this arid region makes spotting wildlife easier. Look out for the "Special 5": Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx and gerenuk. "The evening sundowner by the Ewaso Ng'iro River was magical - pack a light jacket as it gets cool after sunset."
- Day 5
Ol Pejeta Conservancy
- Days 6-7
Lake Nakuru National Park
Travel through the Kenyan highlands to Lake Nakuru. Known for its flamingos and rhinos, the park is best experienced during early morning game drives with bush breakfast. Start at 6:30 AM for optimal wildlife viewing. "Bring binoculars for the incredible birdlife along the lake's edge, especially during the cooler morning hours."
- Days 8-9
Maasai Mara
The Maasai Mara offers spectacular game viewing throughout the year. Between August and early November, you can witness the Great Migration of nearly 2 million wildebeest and zebra. "Our guide took us to lesser-known parts of the reserve to avoid the tourist crowds - we saw three lion prides in one morning." Your stay includes a traditional Maasai dance performance under the stars.
- Day 10
Return to Nairobi
10 Days in Kenya Safari, incl. Nairobi and Masai Mara
Wildlife encounters stretch across 4 major Kenyan destinations covering 450km. Highlights include Daphne Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage, Amboseli's wildlife beneath Kilimanjaro, boat rides on Lake Naivasha, and migration viewing in Masai Mara while staying at premium lodges like Ol Tukai and Ashnil Mara Camp.
- Days 1-2
Nairobi Exploration
Spend your first two days in Nairobi getting acquainted with Kenya's wildlife. Visit the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage around 11 AM when the baby elephants are most active. Stop by the Giraffe Center next to feed Rothschild's giraffes from a raised platform. It's best to bring small Kenyan bills for animal food. Book your stay near the Karen area to easily reach these attractions.
- Days 3-4
Amboseli National Park
The 4-hour drive to Amboseli rewards you with amazing elephant herds and views of Mount Kilimanjaro. One visitor shared: "The sight of elephants with Kilimanjaro in the background was breathtaking - get up early for the clearest mountain views before clouds roll in." Schedule game drives for early morning and late afternoon when wildlife is most active. Between drives you can visit a Maasai village. Book this through your lodge to ensure fair rates.
- Days 5-6
Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha offers unique wildlife experiences. Take a boat to Crescent Island where you can walk safely among wild animals. Afternoon boat trips are perfect for spotting hippos but bring warm clothes as the lake gets cold. Visit Lake Nakuru National Park to see flamingos and rhinos. Good binoculars will help you spot the incredible variety of birds.
- Days 7-9
Masai Mara
Spend three full days in Kenya's most famous reserve. Time your visit between July and October to see the Great Migration. Consider a sunrise balloon ride over the plains for about $450. Book this well ahead as spots fill up fast. The game drives can be rough so bring a cushion and dress in layers. While the Big Five are exciting to spot, take time to appreciate all the other amazing wildlife too.

- 10 Days Kenya Lodge Safari - Wildebeest Migration Safari 2025
The tour was unbelievably good. I would wholeheartedly recommend Stella and Albert and Zack was beyond compare. The game drives were times of absolute fever-pitch waiting for whatever animal or bird would next leap into view and scanning the horizon, that we have some good photos out of the 1000 or more that we took is due to Zacks ability to frame up a scene and park us in the right position. Thanks for the camera tips too! We saw all that we wanted to see and more and have amazing memories to take home exactly as promised in the tour preamble. That said there were just a couple of points that could be addressed: whilst it is not the fault of Exciting Africa the food available through the lodges was sometimes poor such as cold plates stale breads etc. the picnics often inedible. (can that be taken up with them?) Some of the toilet stops need to be reconsidered in light of western women's needs (Seats and soap) the only other sore point was the distance between lodges particularly Amboseli to Aberdare which with a delay after lunch resulted in 10 hours of travel between lodges. whilst it would be more expensive is a plane flight between the two plausible? which would give more time to explore also. These niggles should certainly not detract from the incredible holiday. Albert and Stella it was great to be able to meet you and thankyou for hosting such a memorable trip.
