  • Day 1

    Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

    Plan to leave Nairobi by 7 AM to avoid traffic. The drive to Amboseli takes 4-5 hours on the Mombasa Road. Road conditions get better after Machakos but watch for wildlife near the park entrance. If you get carsick bring medication since the final stretch has rough patches. You'll arrive for lunch at camp before heading out for an afternoon game drive when animals are most active in the cooler hours.

    Full Day in Amboseli

    Get up before sunrise (around 6:30 AM) to see Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds appear. Pack warm clothes since temperatures can drop to 12°C (54°F). The marsh areas are perfect spots to watch elephants during their morning drink. Rest at camp during the hot midday hours. In the afternoon visit the western swamps where large elephant herds gather. The golden hour brings perfect photo opportunities with Kilimanjaro's snow-capped peak in the background.

    Final Game Drive and Return to Nairobi

    Make the most of your last morning with an early game drive. Visit Observation Hill for sweeping views of the park and spot hippos in the swamps below. Wear light clothing as temperatures climb quickly. Start your drive back to Nairobi by mid-morning to beat afternoon city traffic.

  • Day 1

    Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

    Get an early start with hotel pickup in Nairobi for your train station transfer. The SGR train leaves at 8:20 AM. Get there 30 minutes early for security checks. The 2-hour trip to Emali station lets you take in the Kenyan landscape. Your safari guide will pick you up at Emali and drive you to Amboseli National Park. In the afternoon, you'll explore the eastern part of the park where elephants gather near the marshlands. The late afternoon light is perfect for photos of elephants with Kilimanjaro in the background. Bring light layers since mornings are cool but afternoons get quite warm.

    Full Day Amboseli Safari

    Start your day early to see wildlife at peak activity. Morning drives offer the best views of Kilimanjaro before clouds move in. Take time to visit Observation Hill. It's a 15-minute climb but rewards you with great views of the plains and swamps. Wear good shoes for the climb. Your picnic lunch means more time to look for lions, cheetahs and local birds. The western area near Lake Amboseli is great for seeing hippos and water birds during wet season. Remember to protect your camera from the fine dust that gave Amboseli its Maasai name meaning "salty dust."

    Amboseli to Nairobi

    Start with one last short game drive as you leave the park. The drive back to Nairobi takes 4-5 hours on good roads. You can choose between a hotel drop-off or airport transfer. If you're flying out, book afternoon flights to avoid Nairobi's morning traffic jams.
