10 Day Tour du Mont Blanc Itinerary, incl. Chamonix and Courmayeur
The majestic French and Italian Alps stretch 110km from Chamonix to Courmayeur via Les Contamines and Les Chapieux. Stay 5 nights in mountain refuges, 4 in hotels, savoring regional cuisine while conquering challenging 15-20km daily Alpine routes.
- Days 1-2
Chamonix & Les Contamines
Begin your Tour du Mont Blanc adventure in Chamonix. One hiker shares: "Book some time to acclimate—the views were spectacular but the hike was more challenging than I expected." On Day 2 you'll face your first real challenge: a 15km trek from Les Houches to Les Contamines. Start with a cable car ride to Bellevue. Pack carefully since you'll carry your own gear without luggage transport.
- Days 3-4
Les Chapieux & Into Italy
Take on the tough 15km stretch from Les Contamines to Les Chapieux before crossing into Italy through Col de la Seigne pass. You'll encounter glacial lakes and steep paths on your way to Courmayeur. A fellow hiker warns: "Bring proper rain gear—we got caught in mountain storms and the weather changes fast up there." The mountain refuges are simple but provide filling meals.
- Days 5-6
Courmayeur & Val Ferret
Take time to rest in beautiful Courmayeur. You might want to ride the cable car to Pointe Helbronner (€52) for stunning Mont Blanc views. Day 6 involves a steep 13km climb to Val Ferret. Start your day early to beat the afternoon heat. A TourRadar reviewer notes: "The refuges were comfortable and served good food. You won't starve on this trek."
- Days 7-8
Swiss Section
- Days 9-10
Return to Chamonix
10 Days in Western Europe, incl. London and Rome
Ten days of French-Italian splendor begin with Paris's Seine cruise. Visit Dijon's historic center, Venice's St. Mark's Square, Florence's cathedral, and Rome's Vatican. Scenic drives through Chianti vineyards and expert guides enhance the adventure.
- Day 1
London
- Day 2
London to Paris
- Day 3
Paris
Visit the Louvre in the morning before it gets busy. Later, take a guided walking tour through a historic Paris neighborhood and see the city from the water on a Seine River cruise. "The evening river cruise gave us magical views of the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night - definitely time your cruise for sunset."
- Day 4
Paris to Dijon
- Day 5
Dijon to Lucerne
- Day 6
Lucerne to Bergamo
- Day 7
Bergamo to Venice
Begin with a funicular ride to explore Bergamo's upper town. The drive to Venice takes about 3 hours. A private boat will take you to your hotel, which is much easier than dealing with Venice's bridges while carrying luggage. In the evening, take a water taxi through the Grand Canal to see the lit-up palazzos.
- Day 8
Venice to Florence to Rome
- Day 9
Rome
- Day 10
Rome
10 Days in Italy & France, incl. Rome and Paris
A grand ten-day route from Rome to Paris encompasses 20 destinations. Marvel at Vatican City, float across Saint-Tropez Bay, taste wines in Burgundy's finest regions, and reach the summit of the Eiffel Tower. Comfortable hotels and local guides enhance the experience.
- Days 1-2
Rome
Plan to arrive by mid-afternoon since morning traffic from Fiumicino Airport can get busy. Your first evening is perfect for exploring the restaurants along Via Cavour. Bring cash since many local spots don't take cards. Start day two at the Imperial Forums and Colosseum before 9 AM to beat the crowds. Visit the Vatican Museums in the afternoon when it's less crowded. Head to Trastevere around 8 PM for dinner among the locals.
- Day 3
Pisa to French Riviera
Take a morning train to Pisa (3 hours from Rome). A helpful tip: leave your bags at Pisa Centrale station instead of carrying them to the Tower. Take the shuttle to Piazza dei Miracoli. The journey to the French Riviera follows a beautiful coastal route. Stop in Sestri Levante before reaching Nice in the evening.
- Day 4
French Riviera Exploration
- Days 5-6
Provence to Burgundy
- Day 7
Burgundy to Paris
- Days 8-10
Paris
Start with Versailles first thing (it's 45 minutes from central Paris). In Montmartre, use the funicular instead of climbing all those steps. Book your Eiffel Tower visit for late afternoon to avoid long waits. Take a Seine cruise to get your bearings. Use your remaining time to discover Paris's neighborhoods.
What people love about 10-day France and Italy tours
- Trekking Mont Blanc
G Adventures is amazing!
- From Italy to France end Paris
Experience was good, changing of groups and tour guide was excessive and at one point was placed in a group that spoke a completely different language.
- Barcelona to Rome Quest (Standard, Summer ( Until Mar '27), Classic)
This trip was my first Contiki and was a little hesitant at first, as I have lived and travelled around Europe quite a bit on my own. I have to say I was blown away and this absolutely exceeded my expectations. I don't know about other tours but our Tour Manager Ben and our driver Miki were the absolute best team, bar none. 9 days on a bus with 38 strangers with late nights, early mornings and little sleep sounds like a recipe for disaster but rather it ended up being one of the best travel and life experiences I've had, to date. Full stop. Thank you not only to Ben and Miki, but to all the fellow 2016 Contiki Med Quest crew... You are all gems and I am so glad I have the pleasure of meeting and getting to know all of you. Hope we keep in touch and see you all (I hope) for the Contiki 2K17 reunion in Straya (Australia)!!!! #Ilived #Ididitall #Noregrets
