Coastal Walks in Europe Reviews
- Amalfi Coast: Hike & Kayak
The itinerary was great! Loved every minute even the long days in the heat. The guide Matteo was the best part, he made the stay in Italy! Went above and beyond for everyone in the group and always had amazing options for eating and sightseeing.
- Scotland's Shetland Islands
This was a really enjoyable and comprehensive tour of Shetland, we had an amazing tour guide and had lots of good walking. A great mix of history, sightseeing, and culture.
- Walking Turkey's Turquoise Coast
We booked a walking holiday that was rated easy. The walks were really interesting and the distances were not too long. The underfoot terrain was very rough and made for hard going. When we walked the aqueduct, there were very severe drops to one side. With uneven tracks, the potential for a catastrophic fall was evident. I felt uncomfortable on more than one occasion, even though it was a walk I wanted to do. PS The meal at the village was excellent
What our customers ask about Coastal Walks in Europe
When is the best time to go on a coastal walking tour in Europe?
The prime season for European coastal walks runs from April to October though each region has its sweet spot. Along the Amalfi Coast the most pleasant walking comes in May June and September October when the weather is gentle and tourist numbers drop. The Lycian Way in Turkey shows its best colors in spring from March to May. A TourRadar traveler confirms "the wildflowers and views were spectacular." For northern spots like Ireland's coastal routes summer (June-August) brings reliable weather and extended daylight hours for walking.
What are the must-see highlights of European coastal walks?
The coastal paths of Europe present remarkable sights including Italy's Path of the Gods along the Amalfi Coast Lanzarote's Famara Cliffs which tower 500 meters above sea level and the ancient passages of Turkey's Lycian Way. TourRadar travelers often mention "The Gobbins Cliff Path in Northern Ireland with its dramatic bridges and tunnels" and "the beautiful bays of the Amalfi coast." These routes connect natural wonders with cultural landmarks from ancient ruins to fishing villages and historic lighthouses.
What type of accommodation can I expect on European coastal walking tours?
Lodging options range from local family hotels to village guesthouses along the coast. The Hotel Risorgimento in San Lazzaro features terraces with sweeping views of the Amalfi Coast while Montenegro Motel on Turkey's Lycian Way offers home-grown food and looks out over Butterfly Valley. A TourRadar guest noted "the staff treated us like family and the food was wonderful after a long day walking."
How many hours of walking should I expect per day?
Walking times generally span 4-6 hours covering distances of 8-14 kilometers each day. The Amalfi Coast routes average 5 hours while Madeira's paths take 4-5.5 hours to complete. According to a TourRadar participant: "We walked about 10-12km each day with plenty of stops for photos and rest breaks making it very manageable even with challenging sections."
