- Day 1
Kuala Lumpur to Taman Negara
Meet in KL between 6:30-7:00 AM for your 3-hour drive to Labu Sentral Jetty. If you get motion sickness, bring medication for the 2-hour boat ride which can be rough during rainy season. The river journey is great for wildlife watching. Look for hornbills and monitor lizards along the riverbanks. For the best views of the jungle, choose a seat on the right side of the boat.

- Day 2
Bateq Indigenous Community
Spend a full day with the Bateq people of Dedari Village. Wear light clothes that dry quickly and pack water in a daypack. The humidity is high and you'll be active. Your morning focuses on learning survival skills including medicinal plants and food gathering techniques. You'll enjoy an authentic lunch made with ingredients collected from the forest. In the afternoon learn about Bateq cultural traditions and beliefs.

- Day 1
Kuala Lumpur to Taman Negara
Meet in KL between 6:30-7:00 AM for the 3-hour drive to Labu Sentral Jetty. Consider taking motion sickness medication since the roads are winding. From there a 2-hour boat ride takes you up the river to Taman Negara. Watch for wildlife along the banks - you might spot hornbills, monitor lizards and water buffaloes. Check into your air-conditioned chalet at Mutiara Taman Negara and take some time to adjust to the humidity. The 8:30 PM night jungle walk is a must-do activity. Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip because the trails get slippery. Bring a headlamp to keep your hands free. While large wildlife can be hard to spot in the dense forest, you'll see plenty of interesting nocturnal insects and plants.

- Day 2
Rainforest Exploration
Get an early start with a 1.5-hour trek up Teresek Hill before it gets too hot. The trail is steep but clearly marked. Bring plenty of water and don't rush. On clear mornings you can see Mount Tahan, the highest peak in peninsular Malaysia. Next up is the 530-meter canopy walkway suspended 40 meters high (note that it's closed on Fridays). As one visitor shared: "The walkway gives you a whole new perspective on the rainforest. Go slowly and pause often to spot birds and monkeys in the treetops." Head to Lata Berkoh rapids by boat in the afternoon. Pack swimwear for a cool dip in the river. The lighting in late afternoon is perfect for photos of the untouched jungle scenery.
