Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Tui
You'll arrive in Tui and get settled into your accommodation. After checking in, the tour company will fit your rental bike to make sure everything's adjusted properly for the ride ahead. Spend the rest of the day wandering through the town center at your own pace to get oriented and grab dinner somewhere local.

Tui to Valença
Start cycling along the River Minho, which separates Spain and Portugal, making for nice scenery as you ride. You'll stop at Moncão Castle to walk around and take photos, then head back toward Valença. On the way back, you pass traditional northern Portuguese houses. If you're interested, there's an option to visit Palácio de Brejoeira, an 18th-century wine estate worth the detour.

Valença to Viana do Castelo
From Valença, head down to the riverbank and follow it toward Vila Nova de Cerveira, known for its art scene and a nice castle to check out. The town center has character and good spots to grab lunch. After that, you continue along the Minho River through quieter villages and farmland, gradually making your way toward the coast. You'll pass a few beaches before rolling into Viana do Castelo later in the afternoon.

Viana do Castelo to Ponte de Lima
Before leaving Viana do Castelo, go up to the Church of Santa Lucia either by bike or take the funicular if your legs need a break. The views from up there are worth it. Head back down and spend time in the lively town center where there are pedestrian streets and local shops to explore. Later, you'll cycle along the northern bank of the River Lima through Lagos de Bretandes nature reserve, which is popular with birdwatchers. The route ends in Ponte de Lima, a charming medieval town.

Ponte de Lima to Esposende
This morning you'll head back toward the coast, cycling along the south bank of the River Lima. You'll pass near the Gustave Eiffel Bridge back near Viana do Castelo, then pick up part of the Way of St. James pilgrimage route. After passing through some villages and crossing the Neiva River, you'll arrive in Esposende, a coastal town with a lighthouse and an old 17th-century fort that's worth a quick look.

Esposende to Porto
Today's your longest cycling day. From Esposende, cross over to Fao and enter the Northern Coastal Nature Park where the riding gets quieter and nicer. Follow the dunes and beach promenade as you head south. You'll cycle through Póvoa do Varzim, which is a busy fishing port, then Vila do Conde where there's maritime history connected to Portugal's age of discovery. Keep going along the Douro River road, and by evening you'll roll into Porto's city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with old buildings and riverside views.

Departure from Porto
It's time to pack up and head out. You'll return your rental bike and say goodbye to your tour group. This cycling journey through Portuguese river valleys, nature reserves, and coastal areas comes to an end, but you'll take the memories and tired legs home with you.
