Arrival in South Tarawa
You'll land at Bonriki International Airport on South Tarawa where a local guide meets you for the transfer to your hotel. Once you're settled in, there's a welcome dinner with traditional I-Kiribati food, music, and dance performances to kick things off.

South Tarawa Cultural and Historical Sites
Start by checking out the Kiribati Cultural Museum and Parliament House to understand the country's history and how it's governed. After lunch featuring fresh seafood, head to Betio to see WWII sites like Japanese bunkers and Red Beach. Later in the afternoon, try your hand at traditional crafts such as weaving or shell art in a village.

Abatao and Buota Islets
A boat takes you out to the quieter islets of Abatao and Buota where you'll see how people live in these remote communities. You'll watch locals demonstrate coconut husking and toddy collection, then have time to swim and relax on the beach in the warm lagoon before heading back to South Tarawa by late afternoon.

Community Connection and Beach Relaxation
This morning involves visiting a local school or community health clinic to get a sense of daily island life. The afternoon is free time to unwind at the beach, wander through the market for local crafts and food, or hang out playing games with village kids. By evening, there's a beachside barbecue with grilled fish and fresh fruit.

If you went to an outer island, today brings you back to South Tarawa. Otherwise, the day is completely yours to spend however you like, whether that's revisiting spots you liked, relaxing by the lagoon, or trying kayaking or paddleboarding. A farewell dinner with I-Kiribati food and storytelling wraps up the evening.
