Itinerary
- Day 1
Sibiu Airport to Rasinari
You'll arrive at Sibiu Airport where your travel assistant meets you for the transfer to Rasinari. The drive takes you through the Carpathian foothills to your family-run guesthouse, where you'll settle in for the next three nights. This gives you time to rest after your journey and get oriented before the cycling starts tomorrow.
- Day 2
Sibiu
After breakfast, you'll cycle through deciduous forest from Rasinari into Sibiu, which takes a couple of hours at a moderate pace. Once there, your guide leads you through the main sights of the city before heading to the ASTRA open-air museum to see how historical Romanian buildings were constructed. You'll return to Rasinari by evening after a full day of activity.

Cisnadie - Cisnadioara - Sibiel - Gura Raului
This morning you head out to Cisnadie and Cisnadioara, two 13th-century Saxon villages where you can see traditional orchards and local life. From there you'll go through Poplaca and continue to Sibiel to visit the museum of reverse glass icons, a unique local art form. After checking out Gura Raului, you'll head back to Rasinari in the late afternoon.

Rasinari to Biertan
You'll cycle past several fortified churches starting with Holzmengen and Alzen, passing horse-drawn carts and farmers working in the fields along the way. The route continues through Barghis and Pelisor before reaching Biertan, where you'll see the UNESCO World Heritage Site fortified church. You'll check into your accommodation in Biertan for the next three nights.

Reichesdorf - Meschen - Medias
Starting at Reichesdorf, you may meet the Protestant church sexton who can share local insights about the region and its Saxon heritage. After seeing the fortified church here, you'll cycle to Meschen with its 14th-century Protestant church, then explore Medias with its medieval architecture and Gothic churches. From there it's a ride back to Biertan.

Großkopisch - Dumbraveni
Today's a more relaxed cycling day. You'll head from Biertan to Großkopisch, a quiet village with traditional Saxon architecture and rolling hills surrounding it. Then continue to Dumbraveni, known for its peaceful rural character, Protestant church, and old Saxon buildings. You'll cycle along the Kokel River and return to Biertan in the afternoon at an easy pace.

Sighisoara - Brasov - Bran
After breakfast, you'll transfer to Sighisoara for a guided city tour of its medieval old town and historic architecture. From there you continue to Brasov where another guide shows you around, including the impressive Black Church. Later you'll transfer to Bran for an overnight stay, settling in for the next two nights near the famous castle.

Bran Castle - Rasnov Castle
You'll start with Bran Castle, the 14th-century fortress known for its Dracula connections, exploring its architecture and museums. Then head to Rosenau Castle, a 13th-century medieval fortress with massive walls and great views of the Carpathians. From there you can either cycle back to Bran or take the harder route cycling up to Poiana Brasov at 1020m elevation.

Zarnesti - Poiana Marului - Sercaia - Rasinari
You'll cycle from Bran through beautiful Carpathian landscapes toward Zarnesti, known for its bear reserve with observation platforms. The route continues through Poiana Marului via forests and meadows to Sercaia, then you'll take a bus back to Rasinari. An optional challenge available June through October is taking a bus up the Transfagarasan high road to 2030m and cycling about 30 km downhill (weather permitting).

Sibiu Airport
Depending on your flight time, you'll have the morning to wander around Sibiu and soak in the atmosphere of the city one more time. Then it's your transfer to Sibiu Airport for your flight home, ending your Transylvanian cycling journey through Saxon villages and mountain landscapes.
