Itinerary
- Day 1
Keflavik to Reykjavik
Land at Keflavik Airport and drive about 45 minutes to your hotel in Reykjavik (50 km). The rest of the day is yours to settle in and walk around the capital on your own time.
- Day 2
Golden Circle - South Coast
Start early on the Golden Circle route. First stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO site where you'll walk between the continental plates. Then head to Strokkur geyser, which shoots boiling water and steam every 5-7 minutes. After that, you'll see Gullfoss waterfall dropping into a deep canyon. Continue to Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, then drive to the black sand beach at Reynisfjara near Vik. You're looking at about 320 km and 5 hours of driving total.

- Day 3
Skaftafell - Jökulsarlon - Höfn
Head toward Höfn with a stop at Skaftafell National Park to check out Svartifoss waterfall with its black basalt columns around it. The main event is Jökulsarlon glacier lagoon with bright blue icebergs breaking off from Breidamerkurjökull glacier and drifting out to sea. This spot was used in Tomb Raider and James Bond films. After that, walk along Diamond Beach to see more icebergs scattered on the black sand. About 300 km and 5 hours of driving.

- Day 4
East Fjords - Egilsstadir
Drive north through the East Fjords, passing deep fjords, quiet beaches, and dramatic mountain ranges. You'll go through small fishing villages, each with different character and history. Take your time exploring these calm communities. The drive covers approximately 290 km and takes about 5 hours.

Lake Myvatn
Drive through remote areas to Lake Myvatn, known for its volcanic landscapes. Check out the odd lava formations at Dimmuborgir, the steaming hot springs at Namafjall, and bubbling mud pots shaped by Iceland's geology. If you're interested in birds, the western shore has over 115 species including ducks and waterfowl. The long summer evenings here are worth taking in. Approximately 210 km and 4 hours of driving.

- Day 6
Akureyri
Stop at Godafoss (Waterfall of the Gods), which drops about 10 meters but looks dramatic because of the gorge's width and water volume. Consider taking a detour to Húsavík for optional whale watching (up to eleven species June through August). Later, explore Akureyri, the northern capital, with local cafés and shops. Drive through Skagafjördur, a famous horse breeding area where you might see Icelandic horses. The route is approximately 300 km and takes about 5 hours.

- Day 7
Reykjavik
Head back toward Reykjavik with stops at Reykholt, where 13th-century writer Snorri Sturluson lived and wrote the Snorra Edda. See Barnafoss and Hraunfossar waterfalls, where dozens of falls drop directly from lava into the River Hvita along more than one kilometer. Barnafoss has striking blue water and rock formations worth exploring. Visit Deildartunguhver, Europe's most productive hot spring, pumping out about 180 liters per second. Then stop at Borgarnes and its Settlement Center to learn about Iceland's early history. Around 230 km and 4 hours of driving.
